Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 Renders Reveal a Refined Clamshell That Slips Into Pockets With Ease

Leaked CAD files have brought the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 into sharp view well before its official release. High-resolution models created from internal data reveal a clamshell foldable that plays it safe and sticks to a tried-and-true formula while making one significant change, one that makes all the difference when the device is closed in your hand or pocket.

The schematics from those files show the phone in all its unfolded grandeur, measuring 166.8 millimeters tall, 75.4 millimeters broad, and only 6.6 millimeters thick. However, when the two halves are snapped together, the dimensions alter to 85.4 millimeters tall by the same width, with a closed thickness of 13.2 millimeters. This equates to a half-millimeter reduction over the previous iteration, resulting in a substantially slimmer form that does not change how the phone feels when opened.

It appears that the engineers have focused on the hinge mechanism. In the new design, they’ve managed to bring the two halves closer together when it’s closed, reducing the gap that used to make the item seem unwieldy. Metal frames run along the edges as usual, keeping the lines neat, and the overall balance of height and width remains unchanged.

The front and back displays remain largely unchanged from the previous model (4.1 inches on the front and a 6.9 inch screen inside when you flip it open), with the bezels trimmed in to keep things looking neat and tidy, and when you open the thing up, you get full screen video, multitasking, and the whole deal. Cameras remain in the same location (dual module in the top left corner of the cover, LED flash nearby), which is convenient because the wide angle and main lens may be used as selfie cameras when you don’t want to flip it open. The primary sensor is still 50 megapixels, the ultra wide is still 12, and the front camera is still 10 megapixels, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves; we’re still waiting for the official word on that.

It appears that the battery will be the same capacity (just over 4300mAh), but the processor will be upgraded, likely to the Exynos 2600, which should improve efficiency. All of that beautiful internal work will make the phone survive a little longer before it has to be charged, and you won’t have to modify your behaviors at all. Samsung has revealed that it will be officially unveiled at a Galaxy Unpacked event in July.
