Pep Guardiola sends title message to Arsenal after Man City beat Brentford | Football
Pep Guardiola insisted Manchester City will ‘do their job’ for the rest of the Premier League title race as they put pressure on Arsenal with a 3-0 win over Brentford.
Having slipped up on Monday against Everton, Guardiola’s side got back to winning ways with a hard-fought home win over Brentfrod on Saturday.
Jeremy Doku continued his fine form with a superb strike top open the scoring before Erling Haaland and Omar Marmoush made sure of the result.
City now sit just two points behind Arsenal in the Premier League table, although the Gunners can re-establish a five-point lead with victory over West Ham on Sunday.
But Guardiola warned Arsenal that they should expect no more slip-ups from his side in the final weeks of the season as they look to complete a famous domestic treble.
‘Before Everton it was in our hands but now it is not, but what we have to do is our job,’ he told Sky Sports post-match.
‘We didn’t do it perfectly with Everton it was tough. But today we came back and on Wednesday [we play] Crystal Palace, which is always difficult because they have extraordinary players and managers. But we will do our job and wait.’
Asked if his side still have the spirit to prolong the title race, he added: ‘Everton was the real proof, 3-1 down and emotions. The second half we give away. It happened last season many times, now we’re more solid but we still give away.
‘That’s football, it happens, it’s how you react. I’m really pleased for the way we have done it.’
Remaining Premier League fixtures

West Ham (A) – May 10
Burnley (H) – May 18
Crystal Palace (A) – May 24
Man City (74 points)
Crystal Palace (H) – May 13

Guardiola was also keen to praise the performance of Doku, who scored another superb goal to cap off a superb performance and continue his red-hot form.
‘This season he made an incredible step forward, which players must do to try to get better and better,’ Guardiola said of the Belgian winger.
‘He scored a goal with his right foot against Everton [to make it] 3-3, but before that the first goal was his left.
‘Now I have the feeling that if he goes there they will try to block shots and not leave the space to do it and now he has to be clever to shoot or make an extra pass, and another player will be free.
‘Everyone knows it, it’s not necessary to tell you that he made an incredible step. He said, ‘I’m Jeremy Doku and I’m going to win games’. The greatest players always have this mentality.’
