Twin-Turbocharged Porsche GT3 RS Takes On Helicopter in Epic Runway Showdown

Engineers from a Turkish tuning shop recently built the world’s first twin-turbocharged Porsche 911 GT3 RS. This creature is poised to dominate the roads and has now extended its reach into the air with a direct challenge. The team behind OFFICIALLY GASSED set up a series of races on a private runway to pit the modified automobile against a helicopter.
Looking at the power stats, which are a significant boost, a normal 992 GT3 RS produces 525 horsepower from its 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine. ESMotor installed a twin-turbo package, resulting in 872 horsepower and 588 pound-feet of torque at the crank. In reality, it’s closer to 794 horsepower and 500 pound-feet. Weighing in at roughly 1.6 tons, this car has a healthy power-to-weight ratio of 532 horsepower per ton. Don’t worry, all modifications are reversible and will leave no permanent impact on the car’s chassis.

The Bell 505 Jet Ranger X, a completely different beast, has been picked for this little duel. Its turboshaft engine generates around 570 braking horsepower while weighing 1,350 kilos. This gives it an impressive 415 horsepower per ton. According to the factory, the top speed is 155 miles per hour. The three different racing configurations put both machines through the rigors of the half-mile stretch.

The day began with a side-by-side rolling start at 50 mph. The Porsche immediately gains traction and pulls away for the win. Next, they tried a standing start, with the Porsche bursting off from zero and flying past the post. Data from the acceleration run reveal that the car can accelerate from 0 to 60 in 2.98 seconds and reach the quarter mile in 10.56 seconds with a trap speed of 144 mph. The car was the first to pass the half-mile barrier, while the helicopter fell short yet again. A standing start concluded the session, with the Porsche launching from rest.

The Porsche went from zero to sixty in 2.98 seconds, with a quarter-mile time of 10.56 seconds and a trap speed of 144 mph. This meant it reached the half-mile line ahead of the aircraft yet again. The final round used a chase format with a 60-mile-per-hour head start for the helicopter. Even so, the helicopter managed to maintain its lead and exact some sweet payback.

In the end, the Porsche took two of the three wins. Further logs revealed that during one run, the automobile reached speeds of 174 miles per hour at the half-mile point. It went from 62 to 124 in 4.57 seconds. Thermal management was particularly important in the turbo arrangement, as specialized charge cooling kept intake air temperature swings to within three degrees Celsius even at full power.
