Why are Southampton wearing yellow kit with no names against Arsenal in FA Cup? | Football
Southampton are wearing a commemorative yellow kit without names for their FA Cup quarter-final clash with Arsenal at St Mary’s on Saturday.
The Saints have enjoyed an impressive cup run this season, shocking Fulham in the last round to set up a last-eight clash with Premier League leaders Arsenal.
Tonda Eckert’s side have been in superb form since the German took over permanently, and are now find themselves in playoff contention in the Championship.
But they will park their league ambitions this weekend as they look to cause another cup upset and book their spot in the tournament’s semi-finals at Wembley later this month.
Throughout their FA Cup run this season, eagle-eyed viewers would have spotted Southampton wearing a yellow kit without names on the back, instead of their usual red-and-white-stripped home kit.
The kit, only worn in this competition, was released by the club to mark 50 years since Southampton won the FA Cup in 1976.
The yellow and blue shirt is a modern remake of the one worn in the final against Manchester United, made with input from some of the players from the 1976 squad.

Greg Baker, chief revenue officer at the club, previously said: ‘Our 1976 FA Cup victory remains the greatest achievement in the club’s history and this anniversary gives us a unique opportunity to honour the players, supporters, and traditions that define Southampton FC.’
The new shirt also features the signatures of the 15 players who featured in the cup campaign, as well as manager Lawrie McMenemy.
Front-of-Shirt Partner P&O Cruises still features on the on-pitch kit worn by players, but fans are able to buy the commemorative kit without the branding online.
