Manchester United make transfer enquiry for Germany international | Football
Manchester United have asked for information on Borussia Dortmund defender Waldemar Anton, according to reports in Germany.
The Red Devils have prioritised central midfield as their key area of focus ahead of the upcoming transfer window having spent £200million to overhaul their misfiring attack last summer.
However, Old Trafford bosses are also scouring the market for potential defensive additions, with left-back and centre-back identified as positions that could be reinforced.
Michael Carrick has been short of options at centre-half in recent weeks and growing concerns over Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt’s persistent injury problems mean United are actively seeking possible long-term solutions in the transfer market.
Nottingham Forest’s Murillo is believed to have several admirers at United and has emerged as a profile who could provide more reliable cover and competition at the heart of the defence.
According to Sky Germany, Dortmund centre-back Anton is also attracting strong interest and United have made an enquiry to learn more about his current situation, along with Atletico Madrid.
While Nico Schlotterbeck is edging closer to signing a new contract, there are some fears within Dortmund’s hierarchy that his centre-back partner, Anton, could be coaxed away.

Atleti have held an interest in Anton before he even joined Dortmund and throughout his early years at Westfalenstadion.
Bayer Leverkusen have also been linked for some time having made an unsuccessful move for the Germany international when Xabi Alonso was in charge of the club in 2024, only for the centre-half to leave Stuttgart for BVB.
Dortmund are not actively looking to do business for Anton, though, given the 29-year-old is regarded as a ‘key player’, a ‘defensive leader’ and an ‘indispensable part of the starting XI’.
Anton’s current contract with BVB runs through to 2028 and talks over a possible extension are expected to begin in due course.
In a recent interview with Ruhr Nachrichten, Anton distanced himself from rumours that he could be on the move, insisting he remained fully focussed on winning silverware with Dortmund.
‘Whether there are rumours or not, I don’t even notice them,’ he explained.
‘To be honest, I’m not interested. It doesn’t matter if it’s about me or anyone else.
‘There’s always a lot of speculation in football,
‘A club like Borussia Dortmund wants and should be competing for titles. I’m very keen to do that.’
