Yahoo Scrōll Stoppr Doom Scrolling
Endless scrolling causes many people to spend hours aimlessly swiping through their phones. Yahoo came up with a simple solution to the problem in the form of a new accessory called the Scrōll Stoppr, which is currently being offered on TikTok Shop for $5.49 plus free shipping. The first time you hold one of them, you’ll notice a simple silicone sleeve that slides easily over your thumb.

The sleeve fits snugly over your thumb and stays put without shifting during normal use. The surface is smooth enough to be comfortable but textured just enough to keep it from sliding around on your skin. With it on, tapping and swiping becomes noticeably less responsive since your phone can no longer read your thumb the way it would bare skin. Scrolling suddenly requires actual effort, and that effort gets old fast.

Yahoo released the Scroll Stopper as part of their April Fools lineup, though apparently real units are shipping to anyone who orders one today. The product comes with a short video demonstrating how the sleeve works, and it makes its point in under a minute without needing timers or screen time statistics to drive it home. Just watching someone try to mindlessly scroll through social media with the sleeve on is enough.

The experience people report is pretty consistent. You reach for your phone out of habit, the sleeve gets in the way, and the moment breaks. After a few attempts you put it down. The urge comes back, the sleeve is still there, and gradually the reflex starts to fade. It is a simple interruption, but apparently a surprisingly effective one.

The design is about as simple as it gets, no batteries, no app, nothing to set up. The sleeve comes in a small pouch with a one page instruction card that reads ‘Reclaim your thumb. Free your mind.’ Leave it by your charger and it is ready when you wake up. A quick wash with soap and water keeps it fresh, and a single sleeve should last for weeks or months of regular use.
