Glen Powell Officially Voicing Fox McCloud in Upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie

Glen Powell went out of his way to share the news himself on Instagram, writing, “Born to Barrel Roll,” an obvious reference to the Star Fox catchphrase. He will play Fox McCloud in the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy film, which will be released on April 1st, 2026.

Powell brings some genuine credibility to the role. A licensed pilot who held his own in Top Gun: Maverick, he has a natural feel for what makes a high flying, fast talking hero work on screen, and fans have already pointed out that his energy in previous roles maps surprisingly well onto Fox McCloud’s personality in the games. As for the film itself, the ambition makes sense given what the first movie achieved. A billion dollars at the box office left little doubt that audiences wanted more, and this time the adventure heads to space, drawing inspiration from Super Mario Galaxy to send Mario and company on a whole new set of missions.

Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic return to direct this one, with Matthew Fogel penning it. Illumination and Nintendo are collaborating on production, while Universal handles distribution. Brie Larson as Princess Rosalina, Donald Glover as Yoshi’s voice, and Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr. are among the fresh additions to the group. Meanwhile, Chris Pratt reprises his role as Mario, while Anya Taylor-Joy appears as Peach.

Given how well the Star Fox characters fit into the Mario universe, it’s easy to see why they decided to include Fox in this one; he leads a team of pilots who take on missions all over the galaxy in their Arwing ships, which is sure to add a new twist to the Mario formula. Expect plenty of high-flying action and space skirmishes among the typical platforming tasks.
