The first silverware of the season will be decided this afternoon as Arsenal and Manchester City collide in the Carabao Cup final.

The Gunners are chasing an unprecedented quadruple, desperate for Sunday’s showpiece at Wembley to serve as a catalyst for more trophies.

Mikel Arteta does have a few injury concerns heading into the weekend, however.

Eberechi Eze lashed home a stunning strike against Bayer Leverkusen om Tuesday night but was forced off later on in the contest with an ankle issue.

The former Crystal Palace star played down injury fears after the game, however, insisting he will be ‘okay’ for Sunday in a post-match interview.

Jurrien Timber missed that game with an ankle problem of his own. The Netherlands international picked up the knock last weekend against Everton with Arteta hopeful midweek he was ‘a couple of days away’.

Martin Odegaard meanwhile has missed his side’s last five games due to a knee problem he picked up against Brentford in February.

The captain briefly returned late on in the north London derby victory over Tottenham but has not featured since.

Asked for an update on Timber and Odegaard on Friday, Arteta gave little away. The two were to be assessed after a final training session on Saturday with a late decision to be made on the pair.

Manchester City meanwhile have a relatively clean bill of health with Josko Gvardiol their only injury absentee with the Croatia international sidelined with a fractured leg in January.

But Pep Guardiola will be without another key defender in Marc Guehi who is ineligible for this competition.

Arsenal XI to face Man City – Metro prediction

If available, Timber will surely start for the Gunners. But having not played any football since mid-February, Odegaard may have to settle for a spot on the bench even if deemed fit enough to make the squad.

In goal, Kepa Arrizabalaga has played every minute of the Carabao Cup campaign so far, keeping clean sheets against Port Vale, Brighton, and against Chelsea in the second leg of the semi-final.

But with silverware within reach, Arteta may have to be ruthless and start David Raya.

Pep Guardiola faces a similar dilemma in goal. James Trafford has played every minute of the competition and as Stefan Ortega will attest to, Guardiola has stuck with goalkeepers who have served him well in cup competitions leading up to finals.
