Rivian Brings Four R2 Models to Drivers Ready for Electric Adventure, But Only One Will be Available at Launch

Rivian has now revealed the entire R2 model lineup, which is based on the same mid-size chassis but tailored to different budgets and driving styles. Delivery will be spread out over the next few years, beginning with the quickest choice in spring 2026 and continuing all the way to late 2027 for the most affordable. Each R2 model is lower to the ground and lighter than the bigger R1 series, with a 115.6-inch wheelbase, 185.9-inch overall length, and 9.6-inch ground clearance, which complements 25-degree approach and 26-degree departure angles.
The Performance variant, priced at $57,990, will be available first in spring 2026. This beast is propelled by dual motors that deliver 656 horsepower and 609 pound-feet of torque to all four wheels. You’ll go from zero to 60 in 3.6 seconds, and the 87.9 kilowatt-hour battery provides an estimated 330 miles of range on a full charge. Semi-active suspension, 21-inch alloys, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a 975 watt audio system with 9 speakers, and a convenient drop-down rear glass panel are all standard. If you choose the launch package, you will also receive a discount on the driver assistance system, a towing package rated at 4400 pounds, and a special selection of exterior paint colors.

The Premium variant costs $53,990 and will be available to customers in late 2026. This variant lacks some of the power of the Performance model, but it still includes dual motor all-wheel drive and an 87.9 kilowatt hour battery. It produces 450 horsepower and 537 pound-feet of torque, allowing you to accelerate from 0 to 60 in 4.6 seconds. On the range front, you can expect 330 miles, which is consistent with the Performance variant. Heated and ventilated seats improve rider comfort, and the audio system remains unchanged, but the wheels are reduced to 20 inches, and the suspension loses its semi-active tuning. There are drive modes for everyday use, snow, and modest off-road work, but not the pricier rally and launch settings found on the top model.
If you’re searching for a little more affordable choice, the Standard Long Range model, priced at $48,490, is set to arrive in early 2027. This one has a single rear motor that generates 350 horsepower and 355 pound-feet of torque, allowing you to go from zero to 60 in 5.9 seconds. The battery capacity remains at 87.9 kilowatts, extending the range to 345 miles, according to Rivian’s estimates. The inside is more modest, with only heated front seats and a 525 watt audio system with 5 speakers, while 19-inch wheels are standard. If you wish to be able to drive all four wheels, consider adding a second motor as an upgrade.
The most economical variant is the base Standard model, which will be available in 2027 for approximately $45,000. It is paired with a smaller battery, but the single back motor and 350 horsepower provide more than 275 miles of range. They haven’t revealed the precise battery capacity or the complete list of functions yet, but so far so good – it retains the same core proportions and cargo space as its siblings.

Some of the family’s shared strengths are starting to show through. The total enclosed storage capacity is 90.1 cubic feet, with 28.7 cubic feet dedicated for the back seats and enough accommodation for the entire family, five adults in total. Then there’s the front trunk, which provides extra space up front. Every one of these vehicles includes a native NACS charging connection situated on the driver’s rear side, making it simple to plug in at fast charging stations and reach 10-80% charge in 29 minutes, as well as direct access to the Supercharger network. Fortunately, all of them include the minimum hardware for driver assistance and a 60-day trial to give it a shot, with optional pay-per-month or one-time access available after that.

There are also a variety of color options available, including metallic finishes such as Catalina Cove, a swirly blue-green tone, and Esker Silver, a lustrous silver. The wheels range from all-season to all-terrain rubber, with some very large options (19, 20, and 21 inches) to pick from. Inside, the regular dark volcanic tone gives off a moody vibe, and the higher end trims add some nice birch wood accents in either a warm or cool tone to give it some character. Sitting in the center of it all is a haptic steering wheel with all of the buttons for scrolling, pushing, pulling, and tilting. Ahead of this are two dual digital screens, from which you may access software updates from the comfort of your own driveway.
