Michael Carrick confirms ‘fantastic’ Man Utd star is back from injury for Aston Villa | Football
Mason Mount is in contention to return to the Manchester United squad this weekend against Aston Villa.
Since joining Chelsea in the summer of 2023, Mount’s time in Manchester has been largely beset by injuries, starting just 29 matches with a return of seven goals.
The midfielder did enjoy a relatively injury-free first-half of the season under Ruben Amorim but picked up another knock shortly after Michael Carrick’s appointment in January.
Mount has managed just one minute of first-team football under the interim United boss, ruled out of the last six games,
He has now returned to training and is contention to make the squad on Sunday for the visit of Unai Emery’s side.
‘Mason’s back with the group, which is fantastic,’ Carrick said.
‘He’s an important player for us, Mason, and to have him back and involved is a good step for us, definitely.

‘He’s not, you know, 100 per cent in terms of [being] back because he’s only trained a very small amount of time, but he’s back and that’s good for us.
‘So, we’ll see if he’s involved or not on Sunday, but yeah, it’s a big step for him, but we’re happy with that. Yeah, that’s it in terms of players coming back for now.’
Noussair Mazraoui trained this week after coming off with a knock in the defeat to Manchester United last time out.
United remain without Lisandro Martinez, Matthijs de Ligt and Patrick Dorgu.
Martinez has sat out of United’s last three games with a calf problem. De Ligt meanwhile has not featured since the end of November with a back problem with little indication on when he will be available again although the Dutchman was pictured back in training this week.
Dorgu meanwhile is still recovering from a hamstring injury he picked up in the 3-2 victory over Arsenal in January, hoping to return next month.
