LEGO has just unveiled the Mario Kart – Luigi & Mach 8 set (72050), a large 2,234-piece build clearly aimed at adult fans, and the pricing of $179.99 doesn’t seem too bad at all. This thing will hit shelves on April 1st, 2026, though pre-orders opened on March 10, perfect timing for Mario Day. With this new set, the Mach 8 (Luigi’s hallmark ride in Mario Kart 8) receives its first large-scale LEGO makeover.

Building this thing will require a lot of dedication, but when it’s finished, you’ll have a kart that measures 16 inches long, 10 inches tall, and 9 inches broad. Every curve and angle has been precisely replicated from the game to produce an extremely detailed, incredibly sleek green speed machine that looks exactly like the one in the game.

It’s also worth noting that the build contains a really cool custom buildable Luigi figure that allows you to posture his head, arms, and hands whatever you like. You can even convince him to adjust his grip on the wheel or look sideways as he speeds around the circuit. As an added plus, the design allows you to remove him from the kart and display him independently if you choose.

Speaking of the kart, it’s more than just a pretty face, as the front wheels will move in unison with the steering wheel, giving you that true Mario Kart experience. If you’re really into it, you can even spin the back wheels and watch the flaming exhaust pipe pop out for more motion. To be honest, we’re impressed that these mechanics don’t require any electronics at all, just set the kart free on the provided stand and it’ll happily roll forward or sit tilted up in a drift.

The stand is really clever since it allows you to position the kart at various dynamic angles, giving the impression that it is going to take off at any moment. And if you combine it with last year’s Mario & Standard Kart set (which, fun fact, is offered separately), you can create a pretty cool side-by-side rivalry display, complete with Luigi’s green machine pitted against Mario’s red one.
