The Ulefone x RugOne Xsnap 7 Pro offers what you’d expect from a rugged smartphone and adds a game-changing feature: a detachable action camera that pops straight off the back and works independently. Most smartphones just lock everything in place, including screens, batteries, and cameras, but not this one.

With a simple push of a button on the back, the little action camera module detaches with a magnetized snap. Once free, it transforms into a fully functional standalone recorder that can be attached to a helmet, bike frame, or chest strap for hands-free shots. The phone itself becomes a remote viewfinder and control hub, displaying a live preview over a wireless connection. The footage is transferred back when you clip the module back into place, and the phone’s large battery even recharges the camera while they are attached.

That single feature completely transforms how this device fits into the real world, as standard rugged phones are designed to withstand drops, water, and dust with thick covers and reinforced frames. They provide long-lasting battery life and are extremely durable. However, the Xsnap 7 Pro expands on that base, adding really useful modularity. The action camera definitely takes influence from mini models like the Insta360 Go series, which are tiny, wearable, and magnetic, but instead of requiring a separate accessory purchase, it is simply built into the phone body.

Beyond the detachable module, the hardware follows a fairly standard rugged blueprint, with some very astounding stats. A 6.67-inch AMOLED screen with 1.5K resolution and 120Hz refresh provides silky smooth scrolling and playback. Inside, a MediaTek Dimensity 8400 processor is paired with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, as revealed in the MWC 2026 prototype. The battery is a massive 9,000mAh, providing enough power to last through long days and recharge the detached camera. The rear cameras feature a 50-megapixel main sensor with optical stabilisation to keep your footage steady, as well as a 64-megapixel night vision lens that tackles low-light settings expertly. The 32-megapixel front camera also works well for selfies.

Rugged phones are typically bulky, with a black, utilitarian appearance. However, this model is similar in shape, as it is thick and heavy to fit into the battery and modular dock, but the magnetic ecosystem offers up a world of possibilities. RugOne has hinted that future modules, such as infrared imaging or specialty lenses, could attach in the same way. No other mainstream smartphone currently provides a detachable primary camera that can function independently while being linked to the phone’s ecosystem for power, storage, and control.

The prototype was shown at MWC 2026 in Barcelona, and a release date of mid-2026 is planned. Exact pricing and final production specs have yet to be released, but the concept is already sticking out among a sea of incremental improvements.
