ORCA Transporter Shows What Carbon Fiber Can Do for Commercial Mobility

The ORCA Transporter is a serious rethinking of what a huge van can deliver without requiring a trucker’s license or frequent fuel stops to complete the job. Reiter Engineering, a German business with over 25 years of motorsport experience, created this monstrosity on a stretched Mercedes-Benz Sprinter cab chassis. Those ingenious engineers chose carbon fiber for the rear body structure because it reduces overall weight by hundreds of kilograms while keeping the frame sturdy enough to heavy loads.

We’re talking about a dry weight of less than 1,800 kilograms, which is impressive considering the vehicle is nearly 8 meters long. That still provides enough for a cargo load of up to 1,600 kg within the 3,500 kg gross vehicle limit, so anyone with a basic Class B license can drive it lawfully in Europe without issue, but the dimensions speak volumes. The overall length is 7,987 mm, with a width of 2,446 mm (excluding mirrors) and a height of 2,678 mm. Inside the cargo space, the standing height ranges from 1,980 mm at the back to a lovely 2,065 mm at the front, and we have a spacious loading volume of roughly 25 cubic meters. The loading sill height is surprisingly low at 52 cm, making ramps shallower and lifting large objects more easier. The full-height tailgate swings wide open for convenient access, and if you choose the optional electric ramp, it slides out with the stroke of a button, allowing you to handle motorcycles or heavy equipment with ease.

In terms of cargo capacity, this monster has serious hauling credentials, as up to six motorcycles can fit comfortably alongside your gear, or a lightweight race car can simply roll right in thanks to the deep floor and wide doorway. This design is ideal for professional racing teams who need to transport cars, tools, and supplies, but private owners will find it equally useful for weekend track days or adventure trips.

It’s not just for racing teams; the ORCA Transporter’s versatility extends to any kind of application, whether it’s logistics work, trade jobs, horse transport, or even setting up a custom camper, because the interior is a blank canvas just waiting for you to add partitions, tie-down tracks, side doors, and even modular sleeping arrangements (which won’t take up too much space).

Aerodynamics have been thoroughly explored, as the sloped roofline tapers off towards the rear, accompanied by a roof spoiler that channels airflow in a flowingly smooth manner. Computational fluid dynamics calculated the lines in order to optimize fuel efficiency and increase top speed beyond 160 km/h. The engine options begin with a 148-hp diesel linked to a six-speed manual, with a 168-hp version with a nine-speed automatic available as an upgrade. Of course, it’s rear-wheel drive all the way, with no all-wheel option mentioned (for now).

The base price for the empty shell with the smaller engine and manual transmission is roughly €125,000, reflecting the premium materials and hand-built excellence from Reiter’s workshop in Kirchanschöring.
