Rockstar Unveils Fresh Grand Theft Auto 6 Launch Trailer Highlighting Romance, Heists, and Music

Rockstar Games put out a new 90-second launch trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 early this morning, just over a month before the game arrives on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. Footage comes entirely from a PlayStation 5 session, and it leans into the sun-soaked, chaotic feel of Vice City and the wider state of Leonida.

Jason kicks things off by giving us a shady look into his history, getting into trouble in the army and making a mess of everything, leaving him with a poor reputation and no chance to start over. His phone rings, a freebie from the governor, and it’s Lucia Caminos on the other end, still in L block and counting down the days until she can get out. Official notes say that this couple has always been on the wrong side of things, as they knew their chances were bleak, until one silly little score goes awry and they’re suddenly in over their heads with a criminal conspiracy that’s linked to Leonida from top to bottom, so if they want to live, they’re stuck together whether they like it or not.

We swing back and forth between their jobs and quieter periods. Jason and Lucia exchange a sensual shower scene that leaves little to the imagination, since Lucia is still wearing her ankle monitor in the frame after she gets out. Later, she asks the big question: are they going to make it through? Jason just shrugs and says they’ve remained together through thick and thin, and now all they have to do is push through the hardest part.

Action is what’s actually on offer here, with gang members cruising around with Uzis strewn about the back of the car, and Jason and two others emerging from the water at nightfall with night vision goggles as well as silenced rifles. Don’t forget Lucia and another chick blowing open a bank vault with cash flying, as well as a helicopter just crash landing into the side of a skyscraper and shattering the windows, flashbacks of Lucia hanging from a plane’s landing gear, Jason in a fight on a hovercraft, a biplane with pink smoke trailin’ over a beach packed with people, and a rooftop shootout where a massive explosion sends the skyline into a frenzy.

It’s the little things that really get you, like an iguana relaxing in the middle of the road or a severely tattooed person sweating profusely on a chest press. Plus two females in catsuits and pink ski masks brandishing AKs. Driving the whole montage is a new track called Flower in a Hurricane from the French electronic duo Justice, who Rockstar confirmed as the composers of the game’s original score. The song also features Tame Impala, SZA, and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and it sits on the official Grand Theft Auto 6 album already available for pre-save. Grand Theft Auto 6 arrives November 19.
