Rüsselsheim has just unveiled a study that treats the long roof and low stance of a traditional estate as something still worth refining. Debuting at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, the Opel STX Concept (Sports Tourer eXperimental) arrives as a fully electric, all-wheel-drive proposition aimed at proving that everyday cargo space and high-speed stability can coexist with a more sculpted, expressive shape. CEO Florian Huettl described it as a look at how exciting and functional the estate of tomorrow can become, and the car carries forward the brand’s history that began with the 1953 Olympia Rekord Caravan.

Despite the lack of a combustion engine beneath that tall hood, the proportions are familiar. The body measures approximately 4.70 meters in length and has a wheelbase of about three meters. It has small overhangs and a low, silver-blue profile that sits closer to the road than most crossovers on the market. The wide, flared arches and an extended greenhouse give this structure a planted aspect, and the roof stretches a long way back before dropping down sharply, retaining useable space in the back while avoiding a boxy appearance.

Up front, the new Vizor is larger and more visible than before; it’s really sized to match the car rather than trying to fit into the thin face found on many battery electric vehicles. The precision-cut vertical lamellas form the lighting signature’s edge and fade away toward the center, where the Opel Blitz emblem illuminates, offsetting the Compass symbol. There’s a strong crease spanning the length of the bonnet, and the entire unit simply lies flat against the smooth bodywork, which has skillfully avoided the customary plastic surrounding.

The cameras on the sides have replaced the normal mirrors, and the lit STX branding can be seen going down toward the front. The C-pillars have some really striking glass light strips that rise up from the window line and continue up into the roof, and the 22-inch, three-section alloy wheels (with 285/35 R22 Goodyear tires) are designed to reduce turbulence, as the wheels themselves pick up a pretty neat little triangular motif that creates the illusion that the car is floating just a few millimeters above the road when it’s driving.

The glass in the back is rather vertical, giving it a throwback vibe, particularly reminiscent of the classic Ferrari 250 GT SWB Breadvan. The narrow horizontal lights echo the front treatment with their lamella parts, and an illuminated Opel logo sits between the Compass axes. Once speed picks up, some active aerodynamic bits pop out of the diffuser and from the vertical flaps behind the back wheels, and these are designed to help reduce drag and improve stability on the Autobahn, but otherwise the car will sit there with a clean shape, with none of the bits in the way.

Power comes from an electric setup that drives all four wheels, and the top speed is stated to be more than 200 km/h. Not much information has been released about the battery, range, and output, but the combination of low drag, active aero, and these neatly optimized wheels is being touted as the way to achieve both efficiency on long trips and the kind of straight-line composure you’d expect from a German high-speed cruiser. Interior details are still scarce, but the cabin continues the “Painting with Light” approach used in previous Opel concepts, with rather immersive lighting and lightweight chairs that the designers will undoubtedly experiment with.
