KytyPS5 Emulator Wolverine Demon's Souls Demo
KyTyPS5 just turned a pair of PlayStation 5 holdouts into the week’s most watched PC clips. Bluepoint’s 2020 Demon’s Souls remake, a game Sony never sold on computers, is now running real combat at 40 to 50 frames per second in a closed build, with scenery that looks close to the console original. Twelve days after Insomniac’s Marvel’s Wolverine launched on September 15, the same project can open that game’s start screen on a desktop, even if the menu crawls.

This emulator is a free C++ project designed for Windows and Linux, with early macOS releases tossed in. It began with InoriRus’s old research code from 2021 and 2022, which had progressed to hosting PS5-like environments and several modest games before development froze. Nmzik picked up the pieces in June 2026, scrapped the PS4 side project, rewrote the guest memory, shader, and GPU command code, and released the new source on GitHub on July 16 under a GPL-2.0 license. KyTyPS5 only contains the PS5 environment and no Sony firmware or game data; it is simply a bucket to point to existing dumps. It uses Vulkan 1.3 for visuals and has been releasing new public releases almost every day.

In terms of progress, Demon’s Souls is perhaps the best indicator, given SharpEmu had already completed the remake up to character creation before KyTyPS5 blew past it. On September 8th, the YouTube channel PSXTech posted a video of the emulator strolling past that point and entering Boletaria for the first time, running at 1-2 frames per second on hardware such as a Ryzen 7 9800X3D with an RTX 4080 or a Ryzen 9 9950X3D with an RTX 5090. RAM usage increased to almost 30GB. Two days later, the same images were running at about 2 fps, and on September 12th, testers were reporting 10-18 fps. Just a day later, the figure had risen to 30 fps, with dips as low as 18. And only last week, PSXTech posted a new video with an Intel Core i9-14900K and RTX 5090 running at a sharp 40-50 fps with only a few visible texture defects, and the lighting looked very accurate compared to the actual thing. This clip, however, looks to be a private build, so you won’t be able to download it from GitHub just yet.

That being said, those figures still seem good on the high-end silicon setups, and we’re a long way from being completed. One of the test runs for the 50 fps run revealed that the 5090 was only operating at roughly 20% capacity. The CPU appears to be causing the majority of the slowness as it attempts to convert PS5 instruction streams and rebuild shaders for Vulkan SPIR-V. The first run always stutters because the shaders are being compiled, but after that, performance improves slightly because all of the work has been cached in the meantime.

Wolverine is a little more behind on this curve, but he’s still making progress. There’s a video going around from testers, notably Jose Coixao and @notnotzecoxao, of a build PPSA03671 version 01.001.005 making it to the title screen on a Ryzen 7 7800X3D and RTX 5090, however it was still moving at about 2 fps, with a few write-ups bringing that range up to 8. Nobody has shown off a single cutscene or a successful button to advance to the next screen yet. Several news sites are also left wondering whether that particular build was based on the public tree or a customized branch. For a game that is twelve days old, a static title card on PC is still a marker, playable or not.
