Bandai Taught a Business Card Case How to Introduce Itself

Bandai Spirits spent decades teaching die-cast robots how to fold, lock, and present themselves. That same workshop just pointed those skills at a conference-table object almost nobody talks about. Mobile Stationery Automatic Transformation Card Case is the first product in a new adult line called Mobile Stationery, priced at 3,300 yen including tax, roughly twenty dollars. Japanese shop reservations opened August 27, 2026, while October is the planned arrival.

You have a compact ABS shell that is about 125mm wide, 95mm tall, and 25mm thick. When you are ready to greet the person in front of you, face them and press the switch. The side panels will swing open, the inside tray will glide forward, and the card will spin around 180 degrees, landing with the printed side facing up, which is the proper way to present a business card in Japan. Then you may simply close the case and load the next card, ready for the encounter. Bandai has opted for smooth, rather than comical, movements, which they believe is due to their expertise with Chogokin figures rather than being a joke.

The official blurb on the box is quite clear about the trade-off: the internal mechanisms take up the most of the space, so you’ll have to keep your business cards in check (side storage), rather than a large stack. Bandai recommends saving the gadget for important meetings rather than using it for an all-day networking session. They advocate using it with the regular Japanese No. 4 size cards, which are approximately 55 by 91mm and 0.24mm thick.

All three colors will be available at the same time, allowing you to choose one to complement your office decor / outfit. Toy Color is a red, blue, and yellow job with panel lines that resemble a pocket mobile suit when you insert a white card. Standard Color is a soft gray with blue trim that appears to be everyday office gear until it opens up, while Black Color is simply a dark shell with gray hardware for when you want to keep a low profile. Closed up, all three resemble small angular cases with panel lines, rather than a toy left on your desk.

Before the first units event hit shelves, the Japan Toy Awards 2026 awarded it the Excellence Award in the Variety category. Bandai describes the entire Mobile Stationery series as being designed to be something that an adult can actually bring into an office – but let’s be honest, it’s simply a lovely way of saying they want to encourage you, a “kidult,” not to hide your robot collection in the attic any longer.

Preorders have began appearing on import shops in the United States for around $20, and some of the early units are selling out quickly. If you’re using Western-style card stock, you should probably double-check the size before attempting to load the tray, but if you’re okay with the Japanese No. 4 size, a case from Bandai will set the tone for you in October at a reasonable price.
