Rockstar Releases GTA 6 Extended Look on Netflix with Twenty-Six Minutes of Footage That Finally Let You Ride With Them

Rockstar and Netflix put twenty-six minutes of actual GTA 6 gameplay on screens this afternoon, all captured on a regular PlayStation 5, and for the first time the wait stopped feeling like rumor. Jason and Lucia walk into a dim apartment building looking for a man named Raymond on a pickup for someone called Boobie Ike.

After using the elevator, they pass through a crowded hallway, and Jason reaches down to give a dog a quick scratch. A tiny angel icon appears at the top of the screen. We’re discussing about the new Honor system in Rockstar’s game, which monitors whether you’re a good or bad egg, and then they walk into the room where Raymond and his crew are busy pushing product into bags. Just as things are getting settled, a frantic phone call from someone named Ernesto arrives, warning that the cops are on their way. The next thing you know, the doors are destroyed. Two of the dealers are killed with a couple of shots to the head. Before long, they’re racing for cover, pulling out pistols and shotguns, and bullets start ripping through walls. The next thing they know, they’re jumping out of a window and tumbling down to the street below. Lucia asks if that cop was Menendez, but Jason simply answers they didn’t get a good look.

Driving through Leonida is unlike anything gamers have seen from Rockstar before. The traffic is backed up, pedestrians are everyplace, and the walkways are jam-packed. At one point, a woman is giving a car the old hammer treatment with both hands when she notices them driving by. Brian, who sounds almost identical to Stephen Root, is waiting outside a club with his girlfriend, Lori.

Later, we see them providing security at a nocturnal party. The lights and reflections off the wet pavement are so clear that it feels like you could reach out and touch them, even from a game console. When things start to go bad on the job, Jason allows time to slow down so he can take some good headshots like Max Payne used to. Meanwhile, Lucia is battling hand-to-hand on a stairway, takes a hit, grabs the attacker’s gun, and we’re transported to a completely other fight scene.

None of this is a hastily put together trailer montage to hide the flaws. The movie shows the game running smoothly, with all of the little pauses, Jason navigating a crowded nightclub, and how NPCs react when you lock onto them, just like in Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar reiterated the November 19 release date right at the end, with no delays this time. The six-hour Netflix window ends tonight, and the same extended look will be available on YouTube. After years of nothing but screenshots and leaks, Leonida needs only 26 minutes to feel like a real place, where you can get lost, swipe a car, or simply relax on the couch and watch commercials.
