Caviar’s $19,000 Liquid Metal iPhone Ultra Comes in Silver That Moves Before the Phone Does

Caviar decided not to wait for Apple. While the rest of the industry still debates whether a foldable iPhone will even arrive this year, the luxury customizer has already built a small collection of finished designs around a device it calls the iPhone Ultra. The newest additions lean hard into precious metal and rare leather, and one of them turns the entire back into a piece of polished silver that looks like it is still flowing.

Liquid Metal is at the top of the list because Caviar had a full custom panel made for it out of 925 sterling silver, then hand carved that into a pretty heavy sculptural relief, finished off with a mirror polish that makes the light dance across its surface and the ridges shift in a way that makes you think the metal itself is still in motion even though the phone is solid as a rock. A three-dimensional Apple logo, cast in the same silver, emerges from the surface like a work of art. Only 17 of these will exist. The base price is $18,840, and each one will be wrapped in its own branded packaging and include a 24k gold-plated Caviar key.

Jobs takes a more personalized approach, as it is limited to nine units and costs $15,990. The design integrates a small part of Steve Jobs’ original black turtleneck into a 3D Apple logo. His signature appears on a polished titanium surface with exquisite guilloché accents. It’s an appropriate tribute to the company’s 50th anniversary, as is the fact that the foldable design is being viewed as a new chapter rather than a complete break from the past.

Magenta and Karat add leather to the mix. Magenta covers the bottom half in rich raspberry-pink crocodile hide and accents it with a 925 sterling silver top half, frame, and three-dimensional logo. Karat makes the reverse colour swap: deep black crocodile leather gets combined with 24k gold plating on the upper surfaces, decorative frame, camera components, and sculptural logo. Both of these versions are quite rare, with only 19 pieces apiece. Karat costs $14,130, while Magenta costs $15,270.

These four new styles join the previous Flagship set, which included a black titanium and matching crocodile, a dark-cherry purple leather variant, a sterling silver top half, and a carbon fiber edition with a solid gold 18k logo. Caviar intentionally limits production to a minimum and requires full payment before beginning work. They do not ship the bespoke job until Apple actually sells the real gadget, which is expected sometime after their September 9th event (albeit that is all still rumor and supply chain leaks).

Everything is still dependent on a few murmurs and leaks from the supply chain. Caviar’s own materials describe a book-style foldable with a 7.8-inch inner display, a 5.3- to 5.5-inch outer screen, a titanium shell, a hinge that could use liquid metal, and a battery large enough to power the twin screen setup. However, none of those data come from Apple. As a result, custom exteriors serve as both design studies and final goods. Still, the physical mockups Caviar has shown off provide a clear glimpse of the hinge positioning and proportions that will be carried over till the formal presentation.
