Tiny Mic, Big Safety Net, DJI’s Mic Mini 2S Finally Records What Matters

DJI’s smallest wireless microphones just got the one feature that kept a lot of creators from fully trusting them. The Mic Mini 2S keeps the same pocket-sized transmitters that disappear on a collar or lapel, yet each one now carries enough internal storage to record hours of high-quality audio on its own. That single addition turns a convenient clip-on mic into something far more reliable for anyone who has ever lost a take to a dropped signal or a sudden spike in volume.

The new transmitter weighs 12 grams and measures 28.6 x 28 x 13.5 millimeters, which isn’t much different from the Mini 2. It’s a little bigger today, thanks to a whopper of a feature: 14.5GB of built-in memory, which weighs an extra gram or two. In its default 24-bit mode, it can save up to 28 hours of audio. Do you want to go 32-bit float? You will still have approximately 22 hours of recording time. Files are saved as time-stamped WAVs, which you may then remove from the transmitters permanently, similar to a USB drive once connected to a computer. Transfer speed is also relatively fast, at roughly 34MB/s, so you won’t have to wait all day to offload a full day’s work.

The main draw in this upgrade is 32-bit float recording, which will make your life lot easier if you need higher-quality audio. When compared to conventional 24-bit, this item captures significantly more dynamic range. Quiet speech can still be salvaged, and those sudden loud moments will no longer send the entire take tumbling down as they used to, leaving less headroom to play with. If your wireless link ever drops or your camera decides to pack up, the transmitter will just keep on rolling pristine audio in the background. That’s a lifesaver for anyone working alone or in unpredictable circumstances, as it might mean the difference between having anything useful to work with and having to start over.

A nice touch is that you can now link four transmitters to a single receiver and output four different channels. Previous Mini models could only accommodate two. This should make it much more practical for small podcasts, group interviews, and multi-person shoots without the need for additional hardware. The good news is that your existing Mic Mini and Mic Mini 2 transmitters will continue to work with the new receiver, allowing you to easily upgrade and expand your setup. The regular receiver has a reported range of 400 meters when there’s nothing in the way, but there’s also a smaller mobile version that can reach 300 meters in its longer range mode, or 200 meters if combined with select DJI microphones.

Audio processing isn’t exactly rocket science, with two basic levels of AI noise reduction to address typical issues. Basic handles indoor noise such as fans, air conditioners, and reverb. Strong mode can handle more aggressive outdoor noise, but it can begin to flatten some of the inherent detail in the speech if pushed too hard. Clipping control automatically reduces the gain when it becomes too loud, while Loudness balance attempts to keep voices nice and consistent across different speakers. There are also three simple tone presets to get you started, as Regular is pretty plain vanilla, Bright adds clarity, while Rich adds warmth as well as body to the sound.

The battery life is surprisingly good for a device of this size, with the transmitters lasting roughly 11 hours and the receiver lasting about 10. The charging case really shines here, as you can get roughly 40 hours of useable time with a few top-ups, which is somewhat less than the previous Mini 2 (a minor price to pay for the increased internal storage and processing power). Recharging a fully drained transmitter takes approximately 70 minutes, which is very usual.

Mounting is as flexible as ever, with magnets and clips available, and magnetic front covers from the Mini 2 family still fit. If you want to go fancy, you may get additional color sets or the unique illustrated series (the mic can blend in or stick out depending on your mood). The sole drawback is that the tiny form size cannot accommodate a separate wired lavaliere capsule, therefore the mic body and logo will stay visible on the subject. The Osmo Pocket 4, 4P, 360, Nano, and Action 6 cameras can get clear 48kHz 24-bit audio directly from the transmitters using the OsmoAudio technology, so you don’t need a receiver. For phones and most cameras, you’ll need to use standard adapters and 3.5mm cords to complete the operation.

Outside the United States, the two-transmitter camera set, which includes the receiver and charging case, costs £169 or €189 (or approximately CAD $265). A single-transmitter smartphone kit with mobile receiver and case costs £79 or €99 (CAD $149). You can also purchase standalone transmitters and cases. The system was launched globally in early August 2026 in Europe, Canada, and other regions, but the US is still out of luck because to continued regulatory constraints that have prevented the release of a few recent DJI goods.
