Solarky SunV Solar-Electric Car Offers Sunshine Miles for Under Ten Thousand

Solarky Mobility Technologies has put a small four-seat electric car on the road that can gather useful driving distance simply by sitting outside. The SunV measures just 3,150 mm long and 1,491 mm wide, with a wheelbase of 2,070 mm and 190 mm of ground clearance. Its empty weight sits around 660 kg thanks to an aluminum chassis and plastic body panels. That light construction lets a modest 15 kW rear motor and 85 Nm of torque push the car to 80 km/h while returning a claimed 151 km on a full charge of its 10.2 kWh LFP battery pack under the NEDC cycle.

The solar roof, which is equipped with monocrystalline panels, covers 1.6 square meters when in its normal position, but when the car is parked, those panels swing out, more than doubling the surface area to 3.2 square meters. Under perfect sunlight conditions, the solar system can generate up to 300 watts of power, which is enough to give the automobile an additional 50 to 55 kilometers of range per day. Drivers who keep their car parked in the open with a few hours of direct sunshine can extend a single overnight plug-in charge to approximately 200 kilometers of total daily driving. Top it off with a typical home outlet, and you’ll have around 8 hours to get from completely flat to full tank.

Inside, there is enough room for four people to cram onto the synthetic leather seats. A 10.3-inch touchscreen handles navigation, phone pairing, and other useful functions, and it also includes keyless entry, a rear camera, and parking sensors. Those who wish to go the additional mile can take advantage of the energy-saving SuperEco driving option. Pop the rear seats down and you get more space; not that there was much to begin with, but 70 – 80 liters increases to a respectable 800 liters. The mechanicals, which include standard front discs, rear drums, regenerative braking, and electric power steering, are reasonably straightforward and well suited to the car’s lightweight and moderate performance.

Solarky began selling the SunV in Thailand late in 2025 for roughly 269,000 baht ($7,949). The car began manufacture in Indonesia under the MAB brand in 2026, with estimates putting the local pricing at 159 million rupiah. That car has subsequently appeared in Tanzania, and there is talk of it entering the market elsewhere in Southeast Asia and Africa, with the target buyer in each of those areas being someone who only needs to undertake short daily journeys in the city while keeping their operating expenses as low as possible. The solar system’s main advantage is that it can cover a significant portion of the normal daily trip, requiring significantly less charging than a compact EV with a similar range.
