A Runaway Truck Tore a Cybertruck Clean in Half on a Maryland Road, Everyone Inside Walked Away.

Saturday afternoon traffic on Columbia Pike near Fairland Road in Silver Spring, Maryland, turned nasty in an instant. At 1:43 p.m. on July 18, Nation Capital Movers’ moving truck lost control and collided with a line of vehicles. The accident set off a chain reaction crash that involved at least ten cars and trucks. Among the ruins was a Tesla Cybertruck that no longer seemed like a complete vehicle to say the least.

Photos from the Montgomery County Department of police and fire departments show the Cybertruck in disrepair. The rear half, including the entire bed, had been totally ripped away from the front, and there were high voltage cables sitting in the open air, which was crazy.There were also bits and pieces of numerous other automobiles scattered across the road, as well as some unfortunate people trapped inside two of them, which firefighters were working hard to free. Eighteen persons were examined on the scene, and 10 of them, including three children, were hospitalized. Fortunately, all of their injuries were mild; nothing was life-threatening, and no one died. Police have confirmed their initial suspicion that the tragedy began when a moving truck lost control.

The Cybertruck’s cabin remained intact, which was astonishing given the rest of the vehicle’s condition. Even though the back of the vehicle was torn off, the steel frame around the driver and passengers held up well. That distinct incident appears to have taken the brunt of the impact and managed to direct the force away from people inside the vehicle. The vehicle’s stainless steel outer skin and internal frame are supposed to form a safe cage around the occupants within, and while the back gave way, the front compartment did not collapse as planned.

Amazingly, despite the high voltage cables draping all over the place, no fire broke out, and no thermal runaway or flames were observed at the Cybertruck. The road was halted for a short period of time as everyone dealt with the situation, and then reopened once the area was cleared. Montgomery County authorities are still investigating why the moving truck lost control in the first place. So yet, Tesla has remained relatively silent about the issue. officials haven’t gotten around to handing out any details on hit angles or velocity yet.
