Owen Hargreaves has named Manchester United\u2019s signing of the season with the Red Devils enjoying a promising campaign and qualifying for the Champions League.<\/p>\n

United spent over \u00a3200m last summer, bringing Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lammens to Old Trafford.<\/p>\n

All four of those signings have enjoyed encouraging first seasons in Manchester, with Sesko scoring ten goals in 15 appearances since Ruben Amorim was sacked in January.<\/p>\n

Cunha and Mbeumo have brought some much-needed flair to United\u2019s attack, sharing 19 goals in all competitions, while Lammens has helped tighten up a previously leaky defence.<\/p>\n

Hargreaves has praised the impact of Cunha, Mbeumo and Sesko but singled out Lammens as Manchester United\u2019s standout summer signing.<\/p>\n

The Belgian goalkeeper was expected to compete with Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir for a place in the team but quickly leapfrogged both to become the No. 1 at Old Trafford.<\/p>\n

\u2018I\u2019ll\u00a0tell you\u00a0who\u2019s\u00a0probably been\u00a0the best signing of all of them: Senne Lammens,\u2019 Hargreaves told TNT Sports. \u2018What did he cost? Not a lot so\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0been\u00a0value\u00a0for money.<\/p>\n

\u2018I think United\u00a0looked at it and thought, \u201cwhat gets\u00a0us up the table and gets us into the Champions League places?\u201d\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0not a new midfield player or a goalkeeper,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0goals.<\/p>\n

\u2018So\u00a0they added Cunha and Mbeumo, guys with Premier League experience who can get you 20-odd goals and\u00a0United are third right\u00a0now\u00a0so I think\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0been proven correct.<\/p>\n

\u2018But I do think if they\u00a0hadn\u2019t\u00a0have sorted\u00a0the goalkeeper out, they\u00a0wouldn\u2019t\u00a0be in the\u00a0top-four.\u2019<\/p>\n

Ally McCoist agreed with Hargreaves\u2019 assessment, adding: \u2018I\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0think you can underestimate that.<\/p>\n

\u2018If you look at United defensively, they had no confidence at all in what was behind them.<\/p>\n

\u2018All of\u00a0a\u00a0sudden\u00a0they have someone who they do have confidence\u00a0in\u00a0and\u00a0I just think that makes such a big difference.\u2019<\/p>\n

Lammens has barely put a foot wrong this season and earned more praise for his performance in Manchester United\u2019s goalless draw with Sunderland on Saturday.<\/p>\n

\u2018I think I can be proud of the season I\u2019ve been having,\u2019 said Lammens, who completed an \u00a318m move from Royal Antwerp.<\/p>\n

\u2018I had the perfect opportunity and it was the perfect time to come into the team and to grow.<\/p>\n

\u2018I had a lot of things to learn and still have but in this squad, I also get the opportunity to show myself and to help the team out.<\/p>\n

\u2018It\u2019s been a very good season for me personally. As a team as well, we\u2019ve been growing and now it\u2019s about the next step.<\/p>\n

\u2018Next season is going to be a big one. Everyone\u2019s going to step up again because while this season was okay, it\u2019s not our end goal.<\/p>\n

\u2018We have to keep building on this and try to get better.\u2019<\/p>\n

Manchester United\u2019s final two Premier League games of the season are against Nottingham Forest and Brighton.<\/p>\n
