Liverpool have been tipped to raid Tottenham for one of their best players if Spurs are relegated from the Premier League.<\/p>\n

Tottenham are 17th in the table ahead of Monday\u2019s clash with Leeds, one point above West Ham in the dreaded drop zone.<\/p>\n

Spurs have underwhelmed all season and the team\u2019s dismal form cost Thomas Frank his job after just eight months in charge.<\/p>\n

Igor Tudor was appointed as Tottenham interim manager until the end of the season but the north London side did not improve under the Croatian.<\/p>\n

Spurs won none of their league games under Tudor, slipping to four defeats in the league, although they did pick up a respectable point away at Anfield.<\/p>\n

The decision to depart with Tudor after just 44 days came off the back of a hugely damaging 3-0 defeat at home to relegation rivals Nottingham Forest before the March international break.<\/p>\n

Roberto De Zerbi was appointed shortly afterwards, and the fiery Italian has masterminded something of a late-season renaissance.<\/p>\n

After losing his first game to Sunderland, De Zerbi helped Spurs pick up seven points in the resultant games courtesy of a draw with Brighton and wins over Wolves and Aston Villa.<\/p>\n

But relegation is still a real risk for Tottenham, who were competing in a Champions League final not so long ago, and it could well lead to a mass exodus of talent.<\/p>\n

Micky van de Ven would be one of the more obvious departees given his status as one of the best defenders in Europe and Jason McAteer believes his former club Liverpool could sign him on the cheap.<\/p>\n

Van de Ven, who joined Spurs in 2023 in a \u00a343m move from Wolfsburg, has been tentatively linked with a move to Anfield given Liverpool\u2019s need for defensive reinforcements.<\/p>\n

The reigning Premier League champions came agonisingly close to signing Marc Guehi last summer and then saw the former Crystal Palace captain complete a January move to Manchester City.<\/p>\n

Asked whether he can see Liverpool making a move for Van de Ven, McAteer said on the Footy Accumulators\u00a0No Tippy Tappy Football\u00a0podcast: \u2018It looks that way.<\/p>\n

\u2018They missed out on Marc Guehi in the summer, and I was a little bit surprised that they let it go to the winter window to try and do the business.<\/p>\n

\u2018You always bring competition in then; other teams are looking for players in that position, and City have got there before Liverpool. I think they missed out on one there.<\/p>\n

\u2018Leoni came in at the start of the season; obviously, he picked up the really bad injury, which has set him back, and we brought in Jacquet as well.<\/p>\n

\u2018I know he\u2019s not coming until next season, but he is quality, and they have spent a lot of money on him. He will be looking at playing in the team, but they do need another centre-half.<\/p>\n

\u2018There are a couple out there, but Micky van de Ven seems to be [on the market].<\/p>\n

\u2018It will be interesting to see how it develops at Tottenham because if they do go down, they will be looking to offload players, and Liverpool might nick him for a little bit cheaper.\u2019<\/p>\n

Ex-Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood also believes Van de Ven would be a suitable target for Liverpool.<\/p>\n

\u2018I think he\u2019s the obvious choice on that left side, there aren\u2019t many of those about,\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n

\u2018There is one other, Jarrad Branthwaite, but he ain\u2019t going to Liverpool, so it opens up the door there for Micky to go in there as a Liverpool player.<\/p>\n
