{"id":6844,"date":"2026-04-15T14:07:40","date_gmt":"2026-04-15T14:07:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news678.top\/?p=6844"},"modified":"2026-04-15T14:07:40","modified_gmt":"2026-04-15T14:07:40","slug":"young-snooker-stars-hoping-to-create-own-luke-littler-effect-at-the-crucible","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news678.top\/?p=6844","title":{"rendered":"Young snooker stars hoping to create own Luke Littler effect at the Crucible"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img fetchpriority=\"high\" width=\"646\" height=\"363\" src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/stan-moody-liam-pullen.png?w=646\" class=\"article-image wp-image-27985110\" alt=\"Stan Moody and Liam Pullen\" decoding=\"sync\"\/>\t<\/div><figcaption>Stan Moody and Liam Pullen will walk down the Crucible steps for the first time (Pictures: Getty)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Where is the next generation of British snooker stars is a question that has been asked for years and we may have got the answer at the 2026 World Championship.<\/p>\n<p>Stan Moody and Liam Pullen have been the answer to that question for a while, in truth, but as they both book Crucible debuts, they are showing that they are stars, not just of the future, but the present.<\/p>\n<p>19-year-old Moody won two matches to come through qualifying, while Pullen, 20, had to win four from the first round, impressively downing Thai pair Thepchaiya Un-Nooh and Noppon Saengkham at the English Institute of Sport.<\/p>\n<p>Snooker bosses would love to see either or both players bring about a boom in interest like Luke Littler has in darts, attracting the attention of a huge number of new, young fans.<\/p>\n<p>Littler is already a two-time world champion on the oche, while neither Moody nor Pullen have been beyond a ranking quarter-final, so they are not in the same league yet.<\/p>\n<p>However, in terms of hopefully being the flagbearer for a new generation of fans, Moody is happy to accept the comparison.<\/p>\n<div class=\"factbox\" data-ico=\"factbox_article\" data-track-module=\"factbox_article\">\n<h2 class=\"factbox-title\">\n\t\t\t\tAre you mad about snooker?\t\t\t<\/h2>\n<div class=\"factbox-content\">\n<p>You&#8217;re in the right place. There\u2019s obviously Liam Pullen, but doing what I\u2019m doing, there\u2019s not many of them. So it is a fair comment.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Hopefully, yeah [I can inspire new fans]. I think people think it\u2019s a boring game, it\u2019s an old man\u2019s game. It\u2019s not. It can be fun. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018That\u2019s why I try and play more attacking, play fast, and try and encourage young players to do it and believe they can do it.\u2019<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"431\" src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/GettyImages-2252109081.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=646\" class=\"article-image wp-image-27943266\" alt=\"2025 Scottish Open - Day 1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>\t<\/div><figcaption>Moody has huge ambitions in snooker (Picture: Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Moody is taking inspiration himself from watching someone his own age become a world champion, albeit in a very different sport.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Snooker\u2019s a lot harder to dominate, especially nowadays with the standard, anyone can beat anyone, he said. \u2018Darts isn\u2019t really like that. There\u2019s sort of a top few that are very good. But Luke\u2019s generational, he\u2019s amazing. We\u2019ve grown up together. English Under-14 final together, I was in absolute bits because I lost 5-4 on a re-spotted black. But it\u2019s something I can look back now on and laugh.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I think it\u2019s a fantastic achievement for the both of us. Judd\u2019s done a lot more than me in the game, he\u2019s a lot older. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018Hopefully I can beat some of his records, but I\u2019m on my own journey, I\u2019m on my own path and we\u2019ll see what happens and have fun.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>There has been a steady stream of young talent from China coming into the professional game in recent years, while there has also been an impressive rise in number of prospects from mainland Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Poland\u2019s Antoni Kowalski will illustrate that by also making his Crucible debut this year, having come through qualifying in emotional fashion.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"431\" src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/GettyImages-2252035614.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=646\" class=\"article-image wp-image-27977311\" alt=\"2025 Scottish Open - Day 1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>\t<\/div><figcaption>Antoni Kowalski is leading a rise in interest in snooker in Poland (Picture: Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The 22-year-old was not only playing to book a spot at the world famous venue, but needed to win his three qualifying games to keep hold of his professional status for next season.<\/p>\n<p>Impressive victories over Connor Benzey, Joe O\u2019Connor and Jamie Jones meant he achieved both goals and was left in tears as a result.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The best explanation will be that I never cry, that\u2019s the perfect explanation of how much this means to me. I\u2019m over the moon,\u2019 he told WST.<\/p>\n<p>It is the next step on a journey that started when he first picked up a cue at six years old and his talent saw him gifted a table as a nine-year-old through the Paul Hunter Foundation.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"650\" src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-fb85.png?w=646\" class=\"article-image wp-image-27985538\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>\t<\/div><figcaption>Shaun Murphy delivering the news of a new table for a young Antoni Kowalski (Picture: Instagram)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Kowalski will become Poland\u2019s first ever representative at the Crucible as he, Moody and Pullen await news on who they will play in Thursday morning\u2019s draw.<\/p>\n<p>The Englishmen were tight-lipped on who they might like to play on the big stage, but the Pole fancies taking on a legend, especially one he is yet to face in his professional career.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I always wanted to play all of the Class of 92 so hopefully it would be Mark [Williams] or Ronnie [O\u2019Sullivan]. I wouldn\u2019t mind playing John [Higgins] again.
