\t<\/div>Shaun Wright-Phillips said Alejandro Garnacho needs to \u2018put his ego in check\u2019 and be more consistent if he wants to turn around his mixed start to life at Chelsea.<\/p>\n
Garnacho moved to Stamford Bridge for \u00a340million last summer after being frozen out by then-head-coach Ruben Amorim at Manchester United.<\/p>\n
And while the Argentine has shown flashes of his capabilities under both Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior, the 21-year-old has scored just once in 20 Premier League appearances this campaign.<\/p>\n
Garnacho has started just three of Chelsea\u2019s last nine games, although he did come off the bench last weekend to score the Blues\u2019 seventh and final goal from the spot in their comfortable FA Cup win over Port Vale.<\/p>\n
But Wright-Phillips, who made 125 appearances in all competitions for the Blues, said Garnacho has to work much harder on his game and insisted his current levels of performance are simply \u2018not good enough\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u2018I feel like he may need to put his ego a little bit in check,\u2019 Wright-Phillips told Sky Bet. <\/p>\n
\u2018Because in a Premier League, a half season or one season is not good enough. To be at a level where people want to buy you, it has to be a consistent thing. <\/p>\n \u2018It\u2019s okay scoring sometimes, but I know the Chelsea fans, the least they need from you is 110%. If they see you working that hard for that badge, they will back you. <\/p>\n \u2018I don\u2019t know whether that\u2019s tactically, or whether he\u2019s not happy, but they got nearly six or seven wingers, so he\u2019s gonna have to do something because Gittens might just switch on at any given point.\u2019<\/p>\n Speaking recently, Garnacho admitted that this Chelsea can improve, telling Premier League Productions: \u2018We know the team we have, the things we can do. Sometimes is better in some moments, and worse. But yeah, I\u2019m really proud to be here in this moment.<\/p>\n \u2018But yeah, at United have nothing wrong to say about the club or any teammates, no one. Just a moment on life changed. My life continued. So we have to keep looking forward.\u2019<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Wright-Phillips also urged Chelsea boss Rosenior to free Cole Palmer from his defensive responsibilities to get the talismanic midfielder back to his best form.<\/p>\n \u2018I think at times when I watch him, for someone with so much ability, I don\u2019t want him near my box,\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n \u2018If anything, he\u2019s that player that if you had the team behind him, you could make him cheat a little bit, because you want him in a position where he\u2019s close to the striker that can play those passes. <\/p>\n \u2018I just think they need to find a way to play him as the number 10, because he is the maverick that you need, and in many ways, I feel like a player of his calibre and what he\u2019s done at this short time there, they should try to build a team around him.\u2019<\/p>\n Chelsea return to league action when they host Manchester City at Stamford Bridge. <\/p>\n Sky Bet are boosting Erling Haaland to EVENS to have at least one shot on target against Chelsea.
