Paul Scholes insists Michael Carrick has done a \u2018great job\u2019 at Manchester United but still believes there is a better option to become the club\u2019s permanent manager.<\/p>\n

Carrick has won seven of his ten games in charge of United since being hired as caretaker manager following the sacking of Ruben Amorim in January.<\/p>\n

The ex-United midfielder has taken the Red Devils up to third in the Premier League table, above top-four rivals Aston Villa, Liverpool and Chelsea.<\/p>\n

Scholes has described Manchester United\u2019s transformation as \u2018unbelievable\u2019 and insists his former teammate Carrick is \u2018putting real pressure\u2019 on the Old Trafford owners to get the job on a permanent basis.<\/p>\n

Carrick\u2019s return was only expected to be temporary but United\u2019s recent resurgence has convinced many pundits and fans that he should be handed the reins on a full-time basis.<\/p>\n

Scholes wants to see how Carrick deals with a period of \u2018adversity\u2019 before endorsing him for the job, however, and believes the \u2018perfect\u2019 candidate is Carlo Ancelotti.<\/p>\n

Currently preparing to take Brazil into this summer\u2019s World Cup, Ancelotti is one of the most decorated managers of all time, winning titles in England, Italy, Spain, France and Germany and lifting five Champions Leagues.<\/p>\n

\u2018Michael Carrick is doing great,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0unbelievable\u00a0the change,\u2019 Scholes said on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast. \u2018If you put yourself in the owner\u2019s shoes or whoever is making the decision,\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0putting real pressure on them to get the job.<\/p>\n

\u2018The people making that decision might have to think about it a little bit differently because I\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0think you need the most technical or talented coach.<\/p>\n

\u2018You\u2019re\u00a0at a big club with\u00a0good players\u00a0who know what\u00a0they\u2019re\u00a0doing,\u00a0maybe they\u00a0need a man-manager more than anything.<\/p>\n

\u2018If you look back\u00a0to\u00a0Sir\u00a0Alex\u00a0[Ferguson] he was never a coach\u00a0really\u00a0but he knew the players, he knew what the players needed and how to treat players to get the best out of them.<\/p>\n

\u2018If you look at Real Madrid with Carlo Ancelotti, Zinedine Zidane, I\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0think\u00a0they\u2019re\u00a0the most technical or tactical coaches but\u00a0they\u2019re\u00a0good man-managers.<\/p>\n

\u2018Ruben Amorim seemed obsessed with\u00a0tactics\u00a0and it\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0work, Xabi Alonso seemed the same at Real Madrid. Do\u00a0those type of big clubs\u00a0need those coaches or a more man-manager?<\/p>\n

\u2018I\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0know what Michael\u2019s coaching style is\u00a0like\u00a0but I can imagine as a man-manager\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0very good\u00a0because\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0brilliant with people and players.<\/p>\n

\u2018The question over Michael is does he have the experience? I know\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0managed in the\u00a0Championship\u00a0but this is obviously different.<\/p>\n

\u2018Can we see Carrick winning United the Premier League? Look, we\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0know yet.<\/p>\n

\u2018Now the perfect one out there\u2026 Ancelotti is still out there, I know\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0with Brazil, but\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0that perfect one for Manchester United\u00a0where you think he would make players feel a million dollars and\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0got the experience of winning trophies.<\/p>\n

\u2018The only question would be is he too old?\u00a0That\u2019s\u00a0the only thing, is there anyone else of that ilk with a bit more experience?<\/p>\n

\u2018The way you judge a Manchester United manager is to look ahead and think, \u201ccan United win the league with this manager?\u201d\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0not a case of finishing in the\u00a0top-four, you need a manager who you think can win you the Premier League.<\/p>\n

\u2018The\u00a0great thing\u00a0someone like Ancelotti has\u00a0is\u00a0experience \u2013 I know that sounds obvious \u2013 but we\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0know yet how Michael Carrick will deal with going through a bit of adversity.\u2019<\/p>\n

Fellow Old Trafford legend Nicky Butt initially had reservations about Carrick getting the Manchester United job but now expects the 44-year-old to be in charge for the start of next season.<\/p>\n

\u2018It\u2019s\u00a0amazing what\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0done because the club was in turmoil,\u2019 Butt said. \u2018It\u2019s\u00a0brilliant what\u00a0they\u2019re\u00a0doing.<\/p>\n

\u2018If I\u00a0was\u00a0a betting man\u00a0I\u2019d\u00a0be putting my money on Carrick being the permanent manager.\u00a0How can you sit here now and say he\u00a0shouldn\u2019t\u00a0get the job?<\/p>\n

\u2018There\u2019s\u00a0not that many other options, who else would they go for?\u00a0There\u2019s\u00a0nobody jumping out for me.<\/p>\n
