Paul Merson is convinced Enzo Fernandez has already informed Liam Rosenior he wants to leave Chelsea this summer.<\/p>\n

Fernandez\u2019s future at Stamford Bridge has been plunged into doubt after a series of interviews where he refused to commit his long-term future to the club.<\/p>\n

During the international break, he further fuelled talk of a move to Real Madrid after claiming he would \u2018really like\u2019 to live in the Spanish capital.<\/p>\n

His comments have seen Chelsea take action with Rosenior confirming on Friday that Fernandez will now sit out of the club\u2019s next two games against Port Vale and Manchester City.<\/p>\n

Marc Cucurella made similarly provocative remarks during the break, admitting he would find it difficult to turn down a move to Barcelona this summer. But the Spain international has avoided any punishment for now.<\/p>\n

Rosenior claimed \u2018a line was crossed\u2019 when Fernandez refused to rule out a move to Real but Merson believes the Blues boss has made a mistake in his handling of the situation.<\/p>\n

\u2018I think more\u2019s gone on than that. I think Enzo has sat down with him and told him I want to leave,\u2019 Merson told Sky Sports.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u2018I\u2019ve seen Cucurella have a meeting with him. But Enzo has gone in and said I want to leave.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u2018One thing you have to do as a manager is never chop your nose off to spite your face. Let the fans look after that situation. Not you.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u2018The fans will let you know if they are unhappy with Enzo. But play him on the pitch. He is one of Chelsea\u2019s best players. It\u2019s disappointing as a Chelsea fans, and it\u2019s only good news for Man City.\u2019<\/p>\n

Rosenior\u2019s comments have also sparked an angry response from Fernandez\u2019s agent who feels his client has been treated unfairly.<\/p>\n

Javier Pastore told The Athletic: \u2018The punishment is completely unfair \u2014 banning the player for two matches, which moreover are also absolutely crucial for Chelsea because qualification for the Champions League is at stake and he is one of the team\u2019s most important players.<\/p>\n

\u2018Alongside others, of course, but he has proven himself this year to be a leader and a key player, the backbone of this Chelsea side.<\/p>\n

\u2018I think it\u2019s far too harsh given Chelsea\u2019s current situation, and there\u2019s no real reason or justification for why he has been banned.\u2019<\/p>\n
