Rio Ferdinand revealed he contaced Paul Scholes after the Manchester United legend\u2019s apparent dig at Michael Carrick in the wake of last week\u2019s defeat at Newcastle. <\/p>\n

The interim United boss has transformed the mood at Old Trafford since taking over from Ruben Amorim in January. <\/p>\n

Inheriting a squad that was breaking unwanted records almost with each passing week, the Red Devils now look well set to qualify for the Champions League.<\/p>\n

Despite overseeing an astonishing turnaround, United\u2019s first major setback since his arrival saw Carrick receive what appeared to be stinging criticism from hi one-time midfield partner.<\/p>\n

\u2018Michael has definitely got something special about him\u2026cos Utd have been crap last four games,\u2019 read a post that went live on Instagram shortly after the final whistle at St James\u2019 Park.<\/p>\n

\u2018Everyone was saying is Scholesy drunk has he had a few too many to drink, Ferdinand said when referring to the incident on his Rio Presents YouTube channel.<\/p>\n

\u2018I actually texted him and said \u2018what\u2019s going on?\u2019 But Scholesy is Scholesy. He said \u2018listen I said he\u2019s special but we have been rubbish the last four games\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u2018And he isn\u2019t wrong. We have been rubbish the last four games in terms of performance. It hasn\u2019t been top, I wouldn\u2019t say rubbish. It hasn\u2019t been oh my god I\u2019m going to pay to watch that against next week, it\u2019s been flat.<\/p>\n

\u2018People are going \u2018I thought he was his teammate, I thought he\u2019d support him a bit more. Did he need to say that?\u2019 Those are obviously the questions people are asking if there a bit of beef between them?<\/p>\n

\u2018Listen, there\u2019s not beef between them two. They\u2019re two really placid, calm guys. Carra has the upmost respect for Scholesy and Scholesy the same. It was just interpreted differently to the way Scholesy meant it to come across.<\/p>\n

\u2018He\u2019s just being honest and brutal. One thing I\u2019d say abouut him, he didn\u2019t say much in the changing room but when he did it was normally a cutting comment so I\u2019m not surprised he is how he is as a pundit right now.\u2019<\/p>\n

Another United player of that generation, Patrice Evra, meanwhile, couldn\u2019t believe Scholes had taken an instant opportunity to get on Carrick\u2019s back.<\/p>\n

Evra told Stake: \u2018I hope Paul Scholes\u2019 Instagram story is fake, I hope he was hacked.<\/p>\n

\u2018To be honest, I\u2019m not surprised at that from Scholesy. He was the quietest player I\u2019ve ever played with in my entire career. Now, in the media, he drops bombshells.<\/p>\n

\u2018I really don\u2019t understand the lack of support behind Michael Carrick, he\u2019s one of us and he\u2019s doing very well.<\/p>\n

\u2018There\u2019s been negative analysis from Scholesy, but also from Roy Keane and Gary Neville. It annoys me because we want to be in the top four, and those comments are unnecessary, but this is what you do when you work in TV. You can\u2019t be positive, you have to be negative.<\/p>\n

\u2018Most of these guys get a managerial job and get fired straightaway. I said to Neville: \u2018It\u2019s easy to talk on TV. When you were at Valencia, they asked you for paella, and you gave them fish and chips\u2019. After three months, they said goodbye.<\/p>\n

\u2018People can\u2019t forget what they have done as a manager. As players, they\u2019re legends, but as managers, they haven\u2019t done a great job. So for them to speak and possibly kill the career of a manager, it\u2019s a little bit too much.\u2019<\/p>\n
