Boston Dynamics keeps machining, assembly, and repair in the same building so every Atlas unit can move from raw material to a finished, tested robot without leaving the facility. Sr. Technical Program Manager Katie Conner notes that building one robot used to count as a major multi-day effort just a year earlier. The same process now finishes in roughly a single day, with a stated target of one hour by 2027 and minutes in the years after that.

Machinists are hands-on when it comes to the most difficult parts, since they are frequently the only ones capable of tackling them because outside suppliers refuse to work with them when the required tolerance is tighter than their capabilities. That’s why high-precision work like gear cutting and other challenging processes are performed on the bottom floor, where the latest milling machines and other tools are easily accessible to the designers who require them for the robot. An engineer can simply go down to the shop, explain any changes that need to be made to a machinist, and pick up the corrected part that afternoon or the next morning. Then, that portion just goes upstairs, is inserted into a completely completed Atlas, and, voila, the robot can be powered up and tested all in the same day.

Unitree Go2 Robot Dog Quadruped Robotics for Adults Embodied AI (Go2 Air)

【Next-Generation Robotic Companion: Meet the Unitree Go2 Robotic Dog】 The Unitree Go2 Air is an intelligent quadruped robot, perfect for beginners…

【Intelligent Navigation with 3D LiDAR & Obstacle Avoidance】 Featuring ultra-wide 3D LiDAR with 360°x96° perception, the Go2 Air detects…

【High-Definition Vision & Seamless App Integration】 A front HD camera streams 1280×720 video to the app. Control the robot, view real-time data…

Staff describe the machine shop as a critically valuable resource, and it’s easy to understand why. The people who design the robot want access to unique parts on demand, which this place provides. Making those parts isn’t as simple as throwing in a standard program and watching magic happen; instead, the team creates the manufacturing method from the ground up, determining the right tools to use and the right sequence of operations so that everything can be done reliably and economically, and then builds to order.

Robotic arms are already at work on the production floor, easily assembling, or assisting in the assembly of, parts. Repetitive operations such as bolting are delegated to machines, allowing humans to focus on whether the parts fit together correctly and the unit functions well. Once all of the key components are in place, it is time for quality control, and if anything has to be repaired, it is done on the same floor. There is no shipping anything to a different department. People may see a brand-new Atlas roll off the assembly line just hours after it was completed. The entire setup enables any hardware faults that arise on a Monday to be resolved and tested again by the end of the week. Best of all, the robots are always available for future development work, rather than having to wait months for the next shipment to come.

The engineers who create the machines will tell you that having such a direct link between what they do and how the robot turns out is a game changer. They design a part, install it, and then see it in operation for themselves. That sense of responsibility allows you to identify problems and test solutions. Not to mention, it’s an excellent way to get hardware that is precise enough to match the requirements of a robot that walks on two legs. The current one-day production rate is ideal since it allows us to keep up with the quick design changes required for research while also providing us with the kind of repeatable process that will be required when Atlas becomes more widely used.

Boston Dynamics Assembles a Complete Atlas Humanoid Robot From Custom Parts in One Day

#Boston #Dynamics #Assembles #Complete #Atlas #Humanoid #Robot #Custom #Parts #Day

Visitors walking into the Waltham, Massachusetts shop floor often arrive expecting a loose collection of…

[8
2358,7855,6370,545,1361,1274,6371,501,2496,305
post-24242","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-tech","tag-assembles","tag-atlas","tag-boston","tag-complete","tag-custom","tag-day","tag-dynamics","tag-humanoid","tag-parts","tag-robot
https://news678.top/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/boston-dynamics-workshop-how-atlas-is-made.jpg",1280,1280,false
https://news678.top/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/boston-dynamics-workshop-how-atlas-is-made-150x150.jpg",150,150,true
https://news678.top/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/boston-dynamics-workshop-how-atlas-is-made-300x300.jpg",300,300,true
https://news678.top/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/boston-dynamics-workshop-how-atlas-is-made-768x768.jpg",640,640,true
https://news678.top/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/boston-dynamics-workshop-how-atlas-is-made-1024x1024.jpg",640,640,true],"1536x1536":["https://news678.top/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/boston-dynamics-workshop-how-atlas-is-made.jpg",1280,1280,false],"2048x2048":["https://news678.top/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/boston-dynamics-workshop-how-atlas-is-made.jpg",1280,1280,false
https://news678.top/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/boston-dynamics-workshop-how-atlas-is-made-1024x1024.jpg",1024,1024,true
https://news678.top/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/boston-dynamics-workshop-how-atlas-is-made-540x340.jpg",540,340,true
["GET
