Chelsea made a tempting offer to sign Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko three years before his move to Old Trafford.<\/p>\n

Sesko completed a \u00a374m move to United last summer but that was not the first time the Slovenia international had attracted interest from the Premier League.<\/p>\n

Manchester United chiefs held talks with Sesko\u2019s representatives in the summer of 2022 after he burst onto the scene at Red Bull Salzburg.<\/p>\n

Sesko scored 18 goals during his first full season in Salzburg, with his impressive form catching the eye of United.<\/p>\n

But the Red Devils were not the only Premier League giant to express interest in Sesko, with Chelsea also launching a move in that summer, according to The Sun.<\/p>\n

Manchester United\u2019s head of recruitment Christopher Vivell was at Stamford Bridge at that time and admired Sesko following his previous spell with the Red Bull group.<\/p>\n

It is claimed Chelsea\u2019s interest in Sesko was so concrete they even offered the then-teenager \u2018whatever he wanted\u2019 to agree a move to west London.<\/p>\n

Sesko and his agent decided to reject the interest from both Chelsea and Man United, however, believing it was too early for the forward to move to the Premier League.<\/p>\n

Instead he moved to Salzburg\u2019s sister club RB Leipzig and continued to develop in Germany, scoring 39 goals across the next two seasons.<\/p>\n

Manchester United kept tabs on Sesko throughout that period and sanctioned a huge \u00a374m deal for him last summer.<\/p>\n

A number of pundits questioned United\u2019s summer signing following a subdued start to his United career in which he scored just twice before Christmas.<\/p>\n

But Sesko is one of a number of players benefitting from Michael Carrick\u2019s return to United as caretaker boss, netting seven goals in eight games since Ruben Amorim\u2019s sacking.<\/p>\n

Two of those were crucial injury-time goals against Fulham and West Ham, while the most recent two were winners against Everton and Crystal Palace.<\/p>\n

Carrick has predominately used Sesko from the bench but started the in-form 22-year-old in Sunday\u2019s 2-1 win over Palace.<\/p>\n

\u2018It wasn\u2019t a gamble. It wasn\u2019t that big of a decision,\u2019 Carrick said when asked whether he took a risk starting Sesko. \u2018Benjamin is in a good place and he has had a major impact in recent weeks.<\/p>\n

\u2018He\u2019s learning what it feels like to play here and to score the winner today is fantastic. We are here to help and I\u2019m sure that will continue. He is willing to do whatever that is.\u2019<\/p>\n

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has been impressed by Sesko\u2019s development under Carrick and believes he can be a \u2018game-changing\u2019 signing for his former club.<\/p>\n

\u2018I have to say the goal from Benjamin Sesko is an absolute beauty,\u2019 Neville said on his Sky Sports podcast. \u2018It\u2019s\u00a0a brilliant\u00a0header,\u00a0a proper header.<\/p>\n

\u2018He\u2019s\u00a0got confidence now and he got a start today which had to happen after his recent form.\u00a0The confidence, the goals, the finishes\u2026\u00a0they\u2019re\u00a0some brilliant goals\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0scoring by the way.<\/p>\n

\u2018He\u2019s\u00a0definitely improved\u00a0enormously. Michael Carrick never picked him in the\u00a0team, he\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0pick him in the team until\u00a0today\u00a0so\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0obviously had doubts\u00a0about him in terms of not being right or not being quite there.<\/p>\n

\u2018The goal today is\u00a0really good. I think\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0working Sesko into form and\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0a\u00a0game-changer\u00a0for Man United\u00a0because they cannot have another centre-forward come to the club and fail. They just\u00a0can\u2019t.<\/p>\n

\u2018[Bryan] Mbeumo\u00a0and [Matheus] Cunha have looked like United players from the start, just in terms of their confidence,\u00a0power\u00a0and strength.<\/p>\n

\u2018But\u00a0now if Sesko can grow\u00a0\u2013 and he already looks physically better and quicker \u2013 then that is a big,\u00a0big thing.<\/p>\n

\u2018If Carrick can get the best out of him that means in the\u00a0summer\u00a0you can concentrate on other positions like in midfield with Casemiro leaving. You can concentrate\u00a0maybe on\u00a0a full-back and a centre-back\u00a0because they do still have problems in those positions still that need dealing with.<\/p>\n

\u2018But\u00a0maybe now\u00a0you can leave the attacking players because you\u2019ve\u00a0got Sesko, Cunha,\u00a0Mbeumo, Bruno, Amad, Mount \u2013\u00a0they will cause problems to any team.<\/p>\n

\u2018Michael Carrick has doubled or trebled the value of the United squad from where they were under Ruben Amorim.\u00a0He\u2019s\u00a0made players that we doubted look like really\u00a0good players.<\/p>\n

\u2018That will please the owners of course because\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0been so must waste\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0untrue.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0a complete transformation.\u2019<\/p>\n

Sesko will look to continue his hot streak in front of goal on Wednesday when they travel to St James\u2019 Park to face Newcastle United.<\/p>\n
