Casemiro has reportedly told Manchester United which player he wants to replace him in midfield as the club prepare to break the bank once again this summer.<\/p>\n

The Red Devils made it their priority to overhaul Ruben Amorim\u2019s misfiring attack last summer, with Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko all arriving through the doors for a combined fee of around \u00a3200million.<\/p>\n

Old Trafford bosses had also been keen to bring in a central midfielder to slot into Ruben Amorim\u2019s 3-4-3 formation and a host of high-profile names were linked, including Adam Wharton, Elliot Anderson and Carlos Baleba.<\/p>\n

Brighton have since confirmed that United made an ambitious approach for Baleba towards the end of the transfer window, only to simply \u2018go away\u2019 when informed the Cameroon international was not for sale.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s understood United are satisfied with their new-look frontline, which has been firing on all cylinders during the side\u2019s revival under Michael Carrick, and attentions have already turned to strengthening in midfield.<\/p>\n

According to Spanish outlet AS, United\u2019s hierarchy are preparing themselves for \u2018a major summer transfer spree\u2019 and the search is underway for an \u2018irreplaceable\u2019 midfielder who would be capable of leaving a \u2018lasting legacy\u2019.<\/p>\n

In January, Casemiro announced that this season would be his last at the Theatre of Dreams \u2013 and replacing the Brazilian is expected to \u2018come at a steep price\u2019, with United freeing up transfer funds of around \u00a3170million.<\/p>\n

Old Trafford chiefs are favouring players with proven Premier League experience \u2013 following the success of Cunha and Mbeumo \u2013 and the size of United\u2019s warchest could see as many as three midfielders added to the squad.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s claimed Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Elliot Anderson all find themselves towards the top of United\u2019s wishlist, while Adam Wharton and Joao Gomes are both believed to be \u2018further down\u2019 in the Red Devils\u2019 priorities.<\/p>\n

United are said to view Guimaraes as a \u2018foundational player for the future\u2019 and Casemiro has himself recommended that a move for his fellow countryman is explored.<\/p>\n

Newcastle stand to make a tidy profit should they decide to cash in on Guimaraes, having signed the 28-year-old from Lyon for a fee of \u00a342m four years ago.<\/p>\n

The Magpies have been clear that Guimaraes is not for sale, though, and there are currently talks in place for the Brazil international to extend his stay at St James\u2019 Park, \u2018complicating\u2019 a possible move from United.<\/p>\n

When it comes to Guimaraes\u2019 Newcastle midfield partner, Tonali, the report claims a switch to top Premier League team \u2013 rather than a return to Serie A \u2013 is becoming \u2018increasingly likely\u2019 for the Italy international.<\/p>\n

United are said to have held \u2018informal\u2019 talks with the representatives of both Guimaraes and Tonali , but it would \u2018likely\u2019 take an offer in excess of \u00a3125m \u2013 the fee that Liverpool spent on Alexander Isak \u2013 to convince Newcastle to part with either player.<\/p>\n

Anderson remains firmly on United\u2019s radar after a stellar 18 months at club and international level. But at this stage, there remains uncertainty over the 23-year-old\u2019s asking price \u2013 which will be dependent on Nottingham Forest\u2019s fight to remain in the Premier League.<\/p>\n

The report adds that Joao Gomes is \u2018hoping for a call\u2019 from United, with Wolves looking a certainty to drop down into the Championship with ten games remaining of the top-flight campaign.<\/p>\n

United will look to extend their remarkable unbeaten streak under Carrick when they return to action away to Newcastle on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

Alongside Ange Postecoglou, the United interim head coach has enjoyed the joint-best start after nine matches of any manager in Premier League history.<\/p>\n

The latest\u00a0reports\u00a0indicate that the \u2018majority\u2019 of the first-team squad would now like to see the ex-England midfielder given a long-term contract beyond the summer.<\/p>\n
