Arne Slot is baffled by the inconsistency of decisions in the Premier League<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Liverpool boss Arne Slot was stunned to see Maxence Lacroix shown a red card in Crystal Palace\u2019s defeat to Manchester United, despite feeling it was the correct decision.<\/p>\n

The Eagles defender was sent off for pulling back Matheus Cunha as the Red Devils forward burst into the penalty area at Old Trafford on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The referee, Chris Kavanagh, took his time to decide on the decision, but pointed to the spot, before consulting the pitchside monitor on whether it should be a red card as well as a penalty.<\/p>\n

It was decided the Frenchman was denying a goal-scoring opportunity and he was shown a straight red as a result. Bruno Fernandes equalised from the penalty spot and the Red Devils went on to win 2-1.<\/p>\n

Slot was surprised by the decision after seeing a very similar situation in Liverpool\u2019s defeat to Manchester City on February 8.<\/p>\n

The Dutchman felt Marc Guehi should have seen red for pulling back Mo Salah has he burst into the box, but the City defender escaped with a yellow.<\/p>\n

The Reds boss cannot see why VAR came to a different conclusion on both decisions and was surprised by the inconsistency.<\/p>\n

\u2018Very comparable, the only difference is that Mo was pulled back by the shirt and here was a hand on the shoulder,\u2019 Slot told a press conference on Monday morning.<\/p>\n

\u2018If I look at it, I see a similar distance, maybe even the distance between Guehi and [Ruben] Dias was a bigger difference than the distance between both centre-backs of Palace.<\/p>\n

\u2018The moment when I saw it, knowing what happened with us in that situation, VAR is probably checking if it is even a penalty, in or outside the box, but he will never, ever give a red card for this.<\/p>\n

\u2018This is what I sometimes hold against VAR, because every time the Premier League comes in, they tell me there was only two wrong decisions over a whole season.<\/p>\n

\u2018In both situations, the referee did not give a red card. In one situation he overturned it to a red card. Either one of the two is a mistake. So when you come in at the end of the season, you have to say: \u201cOk we made more than one or two mistakes.\u201d\u2018<\/p>\n

Slot confirmed that he felt the right decision was made at Old Trafford, but feels the Premier League will not accept that a mistake was made at Anfield.<\/p>\n

\u2018Surprisingly this was a red card, no, not surprisingly it is a red card,\u2019 he said. \u2018It is, for me, a red card, because I\u2019ve said so many times the one from Guehi was a red card as well. <\/p>\n

\u2018I wasn\u2019t backed up by everyone and the panel said it was a correct decision afterwards. So we\u2019re expecting the panel now to say five times wrong decision made by VAR and a referee.\u2019<\/p>\n

Slot is frustrated by the inconsistencies of officiating, but does admit that his team should be able to win games despite decisions going against them.<\/p>\n

\u2018There\u2019s a frustration because that\u2019s not the first time. This is such a clear example because it happened so short ago,\u2019 he said. \u2018It\u2019s not for the first time.<\/p>\n

\u2018I\u2019ve said many times we have to make sure we don\u2019t depend on these decisions, we\u2019re better than that and we must win our games by being so good that even if decisions go against you \u2013 I\u2019m not saying everything has gone against us, that\u2019s not true \u2013 but sometimes decisions go against you and you have to make sure it doesn\u2019t hurt you.\u2019<\/p>\n

Palace boss Oliver Glasner did not agree that the right decision was made on Sunday, feeling it was an \u2018Old Trafford bonus\u2019 for the home side.<\/p>\n

\u2018There are a few different situations to judge but it still feels like it\u2019s the wrong decision,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

\u2018It\u2019s not a penalty, maybe a red card for a foul outside the box. But the foul starts outside the box. It\u2019s maybe a little bit the Old Trafford bonus.\u2019<\/p>\n
