It was a big, big hurdle in my life. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"621\" height=\"322\" src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Jack-Lisowski-NI-1-22be.png?w=621\" class=\"article-image wp-image-24534219\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>\t<\/div><figcaption>Lisowski beat a string of top players to win the Northern Ireland Open (Picture: WST)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u2018It was horrible, I didn\u2019t really realise it. We\u2019re human beings, we adapt to things and if it\u2019s stressing me out, I\u2019m going to put it to the back of my head as much as I could, like a coping mechanism. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018Then to win, I wish I could have done it sooner, but then maybe the way it happened\u2026it was just really special for me.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It already feels like a long time ago, but when I stop and think about it every now and then I still get a good feeling.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Few things seem to unite fans of a sport, but Lisowski\u2019s triumph appeared pretty much unanimously popular across the snooker landscape.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It was so perfect the way everything happened,\u2019 he remembers. \u2018The way I had to really sweat for it, and, obviously to beat Judd made it more special, in a way, because I had to really earn it.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x\"\/>\n<p>\u2018People after were so nice to me, it just all felt a bit surreal, but it was great. Maybe it comes close to when Rob Milkins won the Welsh Open, I remember I was so happy for him, maybe it was like that where the underdog wins, I guess.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Like I said, I was thinking about it most days and I do feel more relaxed now. There\u2019s still much more to do, but finally I can say I\u2019ve won one now.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>If Lisowski was not as relaxed as he seemed before his title win, he also feels there are other misconceptions about him.<\/p>\n<p>His free-flowing, attacking style makes him look like the game comes naturally to him, but he insists that is not the case.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Everyone says I\u2019m natural, I\u2019m like, see me play after a month off, you\u2019ll soon change your mind on that one,\u2019 said the 35-year-old. \u2018I need to practise really hard, and I don\u2019t think I am [natural].<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"431\" src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/GettyImages-2264124363.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=646\" class=\"article-image wp-image-29127058\" alt=\"Welsh Open 2026 - Day 6\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>\t<\/div><figcaption>Lisowski has already been professional for 16 years (Picture: Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u2018It\u2019s a weird game for me, snooker. It either feels like I know exactly what\u2019s going on or I don\u2019t know which way my arm\u2019s pointing. That can happen in games as well and that\u2019s been one of my flaws over the years, it can all go downhill quickly. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018I just think I\u2019m quite an instinctive player, but yeah, it\u2019s hard. I\u2019m always trying, I think everyone\u2019s got different mannerisms and stuff. I\u2019m not going to stand there chalking my cue for two minutes before the shot, but I\u2019m still trying my best.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Stephen Hendry has been one prominent voice to question Jackpot and whether he is truly putting everything he has into contests.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018There\u2019s no bigger fan of Jack\u2019s game than me, but he doesn\u2019t compete, and that\u2019s been his problem,\u2019 the seven-time world champion said at last season\u2019s British Open.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: Talking Snooker Episode 258 - Phil O'Kane special + Latest News\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"100%\" height=\"152\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/episode\/2nz73BkTB4ZLdreLqXxA25?utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Lisowski says of this comment from the King of the Crucible: \u2018I think whatever he says about me can seem a bit harsh, but I know he wants the best for me, he\u2019s not saying it for nothing. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018I think he probably means when I\u2019m bad, I need to stop my level going as low as it does. Which I think he\u2019s probably spot on with. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018The difference between my good game and my bad game is a lot bigger than most pros, my good and bad is quite extreme. I\u2019ve been working on it over the years, but maybe it never will change, maybe that\u2019s just something I\u2019ve got to accept and not get too down when I lose and not get too high when I win.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>One more belief Lisowski feels people hold about him, which is not true, is how much he works on his game.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I\u2019ve had it quite a lot over the years,\u2019 he said. \u2018People say I need to practise more. I think I\u2019m quite a hard practiser. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018And I\u2019m learning now, I\u2019m starting to feel older and it\u2019s draining. When I was 20 I could play for eight hours a day. But now I\u2019ve got three hours in me and I start getting a bit tired. I think you can practise and get worse, if you\u2019re not intense, so I\u2019m trying not to do that.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Lisowski\u2019s practice routines produced mixed results last season, with his title in Belfast and a final at the Welsh Open but little else to shout about.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It was a bit weird, because my season, apart from Belfast, was poor. Wales was a good one, but that was about it really, apart from that, it wasn\u2019t very good,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"431\" src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/GettyImages-2264282450.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=646\" class=\"article-image wp-image-29127072\" alt=\"Welsh Open 2026 - Day 7\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>\t<\/div><figcaption>Barry Hawkins beat Lisowski in last season\u2019s Welsh Open final (Picture: Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u2018I wouldn\u2019t say I took my foot off the gas, but maybe you lose a little bit of intensity, I don\u2019t know, maybe that\u2019s the reason for not doing so well. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018It\u2019s a tough game, there\u2019s so many tough players. I\u2019ve lost two China qualifiers this season already. Lost to Chang Bingyu 6-1, he never missed a ball. I lost to another Chinese kid [Yao Pengcheng], 5-0. I wasn\u2019t great, but he never really missed a ball either. It\u2019s a tough sport, it\u2019s a tough way to make a living.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018He [Yao] was so good. The Chinese players are really coming through now, obviously you\u2019ve got two Chinese World Champions in a row, and it\u2019s been booming there for years. Now it\u2019s like a changing of the guard. It could be a tough living from here on out.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Lisowski is a huge fan of those two Chinese world champions, the reigning Crucible king, Wu Yize, and the man he dethroned, Zhao Xintong.<\/p>\n<p>Their almost relentless attacking intent is one he shares and is encouragement that it can pay off for him in future.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Wu Yize, what a player,\u2019 said the world number 17. \u2018Honestly, it\u2019s unbelievable. That break he\u2019s done in the last frame [to beat Shaun Murphy 18-17 in the final]. He\u2019s an amazing player. (Photo by Tai Chengzhe\/VCG via Getty Images)\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>\t<\/div><figcaption>Wu Yize conquered the Crucible in May (Picture: Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u2018I think now the game\u2019s changed, I think you\u2019ve got to attack, I know I have, I\u2019ve got to attack and they\u2019ve got to go in.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018That\u2019s how they play, Xintong and Wu Yize, so they just go for their shots, and it\u2019s easier that way, because when you lose, you just go, \u201coh well, I just wasn\u2019t good enough today.\u201d At least you stuck to your guns and you\u2019ve not lost playing negative. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018I\u2019m quite attacking and I have more success that way, it works for themand maybe they can take the game to a new level, I don\u2019t know. I just think it\u2019s interesting, every time they play it\u2019s cool to see. I wonder how good they\u2019re going to be in, five, 10 years. Are they going to be better? Or is this the peak? I don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018When someone plays like that,\u00a0they do kind of dictate the game.\u00a0It\u2019s good for people to watch,\u00a0it makes snooker more exciting,\u00a0they\u2019re both great for the game.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Lisowski hopes he can now couple his adventurous style of play with the confidence of his title win to bring more success.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Hopefully now that\u2019ll give me the belief, I think it will,\u2019 he said. \u2018When I find myself in a semi and I think I\u2019m playing well, I\u2019m going to have that in the back of my head now that I know I can do it. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018Whereas, I\u2019ve probably had 10 times in my life where I think I\u2019m playing really well and I got a chance, but did I truly believe at that point I could win? I don\u2019t know. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018Whereas now, if anything good has come out of it, I think that I know I can do it.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"metro-more-link\"><svg><title>Arrow<\/title>\n<use
