{"id":10003,"date":"2026-05-13T00:47:57","date_gmt":"2026-05-13T00:47:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news678.top\/?p=10003"},"modified":"2026-05-13T00:47:57","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T00:47:57","slug":"world-womens-championship-begins-in-giant-new-arena-built-just-for-snooker","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news678.top\/?p=10003","title":{"rendered":"World Women&#8217;s Championship begins in giant new arena built just for snooker"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img fetchpriority=\"high\" width=\"646\" height=\"431\" src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Venue-e14c.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=646\" class=\"article-image wp-image-28339898\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"sync\"\/>\t<\/div><figcaption>Snooker Sports Arena in Changping, Dongguan (Picture: Matt Huart)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The World Women\u2019s Snooker Championship is underway in a huge new venue which has been built specifically for the sport.<\/p>\n<p>China\u2019s commitment to snooker is only growing stronger, as evidence by the Snooker Sports Arena in Changping, Dongguan.<\/p>\n<p>The new venue is hosting the World Women\u2019s Championship over the next week but is only in a temporary set-up.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s event is already big, with eight match tables and eight practice tables, but it will get a lot bigger in future. An awful lot bigger.<\/p>\n<p>The plan is that by this time next year there will be 350 tables, with the possibility of expanding to 1,000 across the giant complex.<\/p>\n<p>Obviously that number is not just for the World Women\u2019s Championship, but as part of a bid for Changping to become a \u2018Snooker Strong Town\u2019 with extensive practice facilities and the possibility of more tournaments.<\/p>\n<p>With backing and support from local government, Changping, Dongguan hopes to remain the home of the World Women\u2019s Snooker Championship for years to come.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"431\" src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Arena1-458e.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=646\" class=\"article-image wp-image-28339904\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>\t<\/div><figcaption>The new arena is set to be significantly expanded in the next year (Picture: Matt Huart)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This is the third year the tournament has been held in Dongguan, but clearly the first time in the brand new arena.<\/p>\n<p>World Women\u2019s Snooker president Mandy Fisher said ahead of the tournament: \u2018We are delighted to be back in Dongguan Changping for a third successive year and even more so to be at the incredible new Snooker Sports Arena for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It is again fantastic to see such a strong entry for the event, which is set to be the biggest ever since WWS was founded almost 45 years ago.\u2019<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"431\" src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/GettyImages-2147666841.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=646\" class=\"article-image wp-image-28340681\" alt=\"2024 World Championship Qualifiers - Day 1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>\t<\/div><figcaption>Bai Yulu is the reigning women\u2019s world champion (Picture: Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Bai Yulu is the two-time, back-to-back women\u2019s world champion and favourite to win it for a third year on the spin this time round.<\/p>\n<p>The 22-year-old is an increasingly big star in China and a home favourite in Dongguan, where she moved with her parents as a child.<\/p>\n<p>Her first world title win in 2024 sparked huge viewing figures in China across various streaming platforms.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"431\" src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/GettyImages-2092464528.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=646\" class=\"article-image wp-image-28339945\" alt=\"2024 World Women's Snooker Championship - Day 7\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>\t<\/div><figcaption>Bai Yulu (right) has beaten Mink Nutcharut in the last two world finals (Picture: Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>WWS reported: \u2018In China, the event attracted cumulative viewing figures of 175.4 million, with a peak audience of 300,000 via the Huya streaming platform. The total accumulated viewing time totalled 104.7 million hours.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018This was complemented by over 6 million unique viewers recorded by video-sharing platform Douyin.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018On Western platforms the event also boasted record figures via the official WWS Facebook page, with over 725,000 total views across the week.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Bai said of being an inspiration to girls getting into snooker: \u2018Throughout all my practising, what I have always wanted to do is let more people, or more girls, see snooker, become interested, and want to try it.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018There isn\u2019t much I can do personally, except try my best to maintain good form and achieve good results in competitions to increase exposure, so more people want to understand the England\u2019s Reanne Evans, Thai star Mink Nutcharut and Hong Kong\u2019s Ng On-Yee, all of whom have won the tournament before.<\/p>\n<p>Bai has beaten Mink in the last two finals, winning her first world title 6-5 in 2024 and her second 6-4 last year.<\/p>\n<p>The 2026 World Women\u2019s Snooker Championship runs from May 12-19 and two tables are available to stream on the WPBSA\u2019s
