Arsenal v Chelsea - Premier League

Liam Rosenior admitted Arsenal were ‘the best team in the world from set plays’ after Chelsea’s ‘really frustrating’ defeat at the Emirates Stadium.

Chelsea’s hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League were dealt another blow as the Blues were beaten 2-1 on Sunday.

William Saliba nodded Arsenal in front midway through the first half before Chelsea equalised just before the interval through a Piero Hincapie own goal.

Chelsea were gaining control in the second half before Arsenal went back ahead, Jurrien Timber heading home from another Declan Rice corner.

Pedro Neto was sent off for a second yellow card just moments later but Chelsea still threatened to equalise, David Raya denying Enzo Fernandez, Joao Pedro and Alejandro Garnacho.

Chelsea did have the ball in the back of the net in injury-time but Liam Delap’s goal was correctly ruled out for offside.

Rosenior described the defeat as ‘really frustrating’ as Chelsea dropped points for the third Premier League game in a row to slip to sixth in the table.

‘It’s been the same story for the last three games,’ Rosenior said. ‘You have performances to get results and it is the same story. We were in the ascendancy for all three games.

‘We are together because what I never do whether we win or lose games is start pointing fingers at players. But it is clear what we need to improve.

‘It is not our football or attacking play, we need to make sure we are ruthless in both boxes.

‘To concede two goals from corners and get another red card, that has been the story of our season. It has been the story of the last few games.’

Discussing Arsenal’s threat from set-pieces, Rosenior added: ‘The first goal is top. Arsenal are probably the best team in the world from set plays.

‘If you don’t think we’ve spent all week working on set plays, you would be crazy not to. But the second one is disappointing, we just have to deal with that better.

‘We have to be stronger, we have to have a better mentality. We gave a free-kick away and then we gave a corner away when we were in control from a sloppy moment.

‘We need to win games of football and we need to solve that before Aston Villa.’

While Chelsea face a huge fight to qualify for the Champions League, Arsenal are again five points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta said: ‘We knew it was going to be a tough game. They are a top side, really well coached.

‘I think we did some great things throughout the game. The moment we conceded the goal, it was disappointing, but we responded well in the end.

‘We are really happy because we know we had two difficult games in the last week. The attitude and willingness to go for it and be dominant, I am happy with it.

‘In March, we are in every competition, we are right up there.’
